Curses foiled again…what? Over for now? She wasn’t getting out of it whole anyways. She knows that. And they are protected class. It seems that the ruling class has been busy ruling things and being very smart and ruthless about it.

Well, the chief rat did say it would be all the same to him if the End Towners were all lobotomized…

Mavis seemed unconcerned about Jacob getting information from her. So maybe the “inner circle” works on a cell system. Which means that Cooper was one of her cell members. So maybe only one more sure candidate for interrogation. But maybe Mavis suspected others of belonging…

Things are going to get nasty… umm, nastier.

A clue to the Inner Circle. Refer back to Holly’s story. They were only taking “selected ones” down the elevators when the missiles came. Rat shot one dude holding Holly as a hostage so they would take him with her and Doc. Think of the movie. 2012. Only selected ones were going to go on the arks. Finally all who were there got to go. This sort of happened in Endtown……the selected chosen ones are the Inner Circle…….now they are tired of a meager existence on beans. Mavis is right. They will kill Jake and replace him……with Velda??? Frying her doesn’t change the reality. That’s why she’ll be laughing as her brain is fried. Such is true believer.

What you’re all overlooking is that Jake KNOWS who the guilty parties are; it’s only a matter now of quietly rolling them up… or conning them into doing the job for him.

Looks like in the long run Allgood’s faction was right, as much of a fanatic as he was. He recognized the slippery slope of using mutants to produce foodstuffs for what it was. One of the big questions here is why Aaron Marx supported Jacob. With his multiverse-hopping abilities, he had to have some idea of where this would lead.

I wonder if that is what Jacob’s dream meant…symbolically pulling weeds out of the community and ending up with blood on his hands.

Also, thinking of Holly’s dream, she and her father were led to the entrance to Endtown by a fox in a bowtie, puffing a cigar, who seemed to be instrumental in the town’s creation. Maybe another incarnation of Marx?

The inner circle and the “fine upstanding citizens” just don’t take into account that the rats will not care. Time for the Purge.

I find it disturbing that Mavis seems unconcerned about her current situation. She seemed nervous at first, but mostly because she didn’t know where she was.

I don’t think the inner circle understands that they had help from “outside” to rig events in Jacob’s favor. And, Marx might have put Jacob in this position to get rid of the inner circle.

Jacob now realizes how thoroughly he’s been used and been blind to it the whole time. All his efforts to keep Endtown a viable community have been countered. The Inner Circle doesn’t care. If Jacob causes too much trouble to them: Hasenpfeffer. Play it close to your chest Jacob. You can only trust the Rats. And then only so far.

So, where does Cooper’s attempt to talk to Velba fit in this? Velba seems to be off the hook? Or is she the next layer? I keep remembering her comment that she’ll be much happier when she doesn’t do the dirty work any more. or words to that affect.

Jake: “Now, we have a good idea of who we need to take down, we just need to figure out how to get all of them at one time. We only need the ones actually kidnapping, killing and processing the victims – their customers are smaller fry. How do we trap the masterminds?”

    Velda: “Use an open pit?”

Mavis sure has an odd definition of “fine, upstanding citizens” unless she meant they routinely stood up after partaking in a fine meal composed of some of their fellow citizens. Just when I thought this strip was getting pretty dark, out go the lights… ;-)

Mavis’ memories will reveal a part of the client list. The memories of a dozen clients will reveal the rest. They can’t remain in Endtown. Either they go or they die. I miss Flask. I miss her so much. She would have been the right cheetah in the right place, ruthless and efficient. The rats may be out of control by now. BTW, We haven’t heard of Mallard for a long time.

So that deep state group is ruling the state from behind. Maybe, maybe they find themselves hanging from the lamp before they can turn their head. Maybe there are too many. I hope the circle is not THAT big, only the number of “gourmets”. That would be difficult to deal with already.

Liked the direction of Lizard town better than what the inner circle tried to do in Endtown, hopefully Jacob can get it back together.

I think someone here suggested that the inner circle seemed to be possibly afflicted with a form of the Schism Syndrome. And just as Jim the racoon completely flaked out and thought he was God, these people seemed to have gone off the deep end in a similar fashion. But they don’t appear to have thought out the problem very far. For one, harvesting animals is, in many ways, a waste of of resources since doesn’t it take about 10 pounds of beans to produce 1 pound of meat? Secondly, according to the lizards in Unity, only 1 out of 200 eggs were lizard embryos. Which, in a population like Endtown of 7000 people, means that only 35 would likely be pigs. And of those 35, not all decided to go whole hog and fatten themselves up for slaughter. And you certainly can’t wait around for them to breed and produce a new generation to slaughter. So we are talking about a rather limited run of sausage, etc. (Side note. Where might they be getting spices to season this meat, barbecue sauce, and proper wood to smoke it with?) And with such a small target of victims, it should not be all that difficult to see who is surveiling this small group of sacrifices, not to mention that with a small number of news outlets, finding out who is feeding spurious articles into them should not be that difficult to determine.

And while maybe the “pigs” could be convinced that they were somehow unworthy and should somehow sacrifice themselves for the good of the colony, would that same psychological attack work on other groups of potential victims?

Also, wouldn’t the inner circle likely be composed of carnivores (or possibly omnivores?) So herbivores like Justine would not likely be villians, thus narrowing the possible group of potential bad guys.

Plus the inner circle can’t be very large because the more there are, the more likely they are to be noticed.

So it strikes me that recruiting the fish and herbivores to do some sleuthing might be a good way to pick out the bad guys.

ShonHowell has a good point. Jacob and Velda would know who the “inner circle” is-because that group supported Jacob in his rise to authority. But the details of how they developed and implemented the pig butcher plan would be useful—as long as any recognition signals for contact. With that info, Jacob could engineer events to get them all in one location(for a meeting or whatever). And then…a major “accident”, like a huge fire or some other Ratastrophe could wipe them out.

I think this situation is still salvageable, remember what the rats said about excess population? I’m pretty sure every one of those “fine upstanding citizens” can be rounded up and there will still be plenty of people to keep the city running. As for him being branded a despot, I dare you to spin a story where a cabal of cannibalistic serial killers are oppressed victims, he’d be the hero of the story as long as his administration remains transparent about it.

Mavis’ complexion has changed through the strips. she wes some fair woman and she turned so gross and insane… May be she suffers from Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease induced by infected pig meat. "he first symptom of CJD is usually rapidly progressive dementia, leading to memory loss, personality changes, and hallucinations. " (wikipedia) – Even if in her case, memory loss will most likely occur due to an external cause.
