Elvis is going to bust right out of those braces! ( British word for suspenders; suspenders over there are what we call garters or a garter belt in the USA. So learned from a Brit I dated back in the 70s).
And out they popped just behind the office near the main gate. Megan told Tre-C; “We’ll stay here, just out of sight. That way, when the truck rolls in we’ll be able to hear the driver’s story and verify he’s going to off-load. I don’t think it’ll be too long”. It wasn’t. In fact, no more than 10 minutes after their dramatic act of “felis destructus", the truck rumbled up to the entrance. It may not actually have been that the driver was cursing all the way from the house with the locked gate, but it sure seemed that way. “I don’t know what happened!” the driver shouted at the guard; “I was making good time and then on one pickup the arm just stopped. I can see I’m leaving a trail of juice so I’’m just gonna drop what I’ve got so far and drive it over to the shop. Hopefully the guys can fix it and get me back on the road before they have to do any re-routing.” So the big rig drove through the gate and onto the yard, moving towards the main building where the trash was processed after off-loading. The driver made his loop, turning the truck into a position to back in. Megan and Tre-C had followed the truck at a distance, but both were looking for a way into the building that they could use unseen. They found an open window- and that was all they needed. “Stay close to the walls, and keep low,” Megan advised. “Here he comes now…”
I just adore Burt! He’s a sweet, slow-talkin’ country boy! (oh gawd, Loretta Lynn songs are gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day) My hubby’s a sweet, quiet country boy who grew up with cows and sheep. :D
The reporters wear ties, bow or otherwise, but Burt, as befits a working man, er cat, wears his shirt open at the throat. Happy Labor Day, to all my fellow unionists.
Oh, if Lupin were not holding him back, oh how Elvis would poof. He would poof all morning and poof all night, he would poof that tail up shiny and bright! :)
Good morning, orbsters and orbabies! I love the first panel, with Lupin holding onto Elvis for dear life, while Elvis struggles futilely to get away at this new stranger (who will not remain strange for very long).
Oh, wait. They’ve just got rid of that big view all comments button which used to below the featured comment. And here I thought most of the commenters had quit commenting. There goes Go Comics with another of it’s dumb “new” site feature. I won’t be surprised if they get rid of the comments section altogether.
Elvis being held back by his suspenders looks like our little alpha female the other night on a walk, with me holding on tight to the leash to prevent her from attacking a hapless stray cat that wandered past us.
As I was heading out to go to the store yesterday, I spotted a black cat near my porch that looks so much like Sooti, I thought for a moment that she had somehow managed to get out. Then the cat sprinted for my next door neighbor’s place and revealed that it has a bobbed tail (I doubt it is more than 3" long). I suspect that Sooti’s mom has had another litter of kittens there. I also saw a black and white kitten.
I don’t know if Sooti’s doppelganger has a naturally bobbed tail or if there was some mishap that cut it short.
For those who have not been this way before, Burt (at least to me) represents another layer of characters, just like Tommy did. An absolutely fantastic cast awaits us all….!
Love the strip, read it every day. Unfortunately, feral cats have a very hard life and low life expectancy. We have fixed about 30, buried about 50, and more than that have just never come back (most likely killed by the food chain). We have four inside we were able to capture and heal up and they are a joy. Sorry to put a bummer out there.

Easy there, Elvis. Wouldn’t want to start a cat fight during the interview.

OK, I like Burt already. But seriously, the very first panel with Lupin holding Elvis back by his suspenders… almost did a classic, sitcom spit take.

No, the owl will show up later.

I hope to see the original longer cartoons from very beginning in a book form. Even though Puck looked a bit gray.

Does Burt have matching mittens and socks or is that just his natural fur coloring?

While obviously being a “cat of the poeople”, I LOVE Burt’s scholarly exposatory stance. I wonder of his jacket has suede patches at the elbows.

Is it my imagination, or is Burt even more luxuriously furry than before? His fur and tail are glorious.
