I was just thinking about this one earlier! So glad to see it redone!
And Lupin with the popcorn makes me LOL. (And that great big adorable smile!) I guess he’s entertained by Elvis playing with a toy that is clearly not meant for kitties. Though, given how much I enjoy watching Blossom play with things like plastic golf balls, I can’t blame him. :D
Lupin in panel 3 – is he psyched about a new cat toy (see the “our toys” reference in panel 1) OR is he anticipating a show from Elvis (see popcorn in panel 5)?
Love the chart. The one time being when poor Pucky got his tail stepped on. Not really grounds around here for a special toy. That’s either grounds for picking up and cuddling or an I told you so after telling them fifteen times or more that their going to get hurt being right in the pathway and we won’t see them.
Although right now Smokey probably still thinks I hate her or something for accidentally closing the door to the porch on her tail. Now that WAS my fault. She wanted out on the porch with the boys and I thought she was clear of the door when I closed it. Couldn’t get her to come to me so I could apologize for hurting her.
“And now a special ASPCA report; ‘Dog Fighting- International Epidemic’” Tre-C’s ears immediately perked up, “Dog fighting? You want to get involved with dog fighting?” “Shh… we’ll talk after the program..” The announcer began; “There are many reasons people are drawn to dogfighting. The most basic is greed. Major dogfight raids have resulted in seizures of more than $500,000, and it is not unusual for $20,000 – $30,000 to change hands in a single fight. Stud fees and the sale of pups from promising bloodlines can also bring in thousands of dollars. For others, the attraction lies in using the animals as an extension of themselves to fight their battles for them and to demonstrate their strength and prowess. However, when a dog loses, this can cause the owner of the dog to lose not only money, but status, and may lead to brutal actions against the dog. For others, the appeal simply seems to come from the sadistic enjoyment of a brutal spectacle.” Tre-C’s mouth was open. “Holy sh…” “My feelings exactly, Kitten. My feelings exactly.”
While Tre-C and Megan were giving their attention to the TV broadcast, Maxie walked up to the girls with his eyes on the big screen. “How can they do that?” “Wholesale cruelty, you mean? Sadly, this is a characteristic of Man, and it has been going on for eons.” The big, multi-colored tom was visibly disturbed. “I’ve seen fights over territory, water, food, even mates. Humans are the only ones who fight for enjoyment.” “And I’ll tell you something else…” Megan said, dropping her head. “I can’t fix it.” Tre-C walked over to Megan and bunted her forehead. “But you’re gonna try, aren’t you?"
Mom had a neighborhood stray who brought her own toy to the patio. It was a small round beanbag (like a ball, but more soft and biteable). Problem is she used to leave it in random spots on the ground where people could trip over it. Mom kept putting it on the patio table but the cat would keep moving it back to ground level when there were no humans around.
We have every cat toy known to catkind. Mice, balls, track balls, feather wands, kickaroos, laser pointers, that As Seen on TV thing with the wand that automatically moves around under the yellow cover, the wooden box with the holes to fish toys and treats out of. Their favorite playthings? An old potholder and a small lint roller.
Thank goodness for BCN. I have now stopped snarling over time change helI….managed a half hour past our usual breakfast time but could not make it a full hour in the face of determined pets who don’t care what the people clock says…and am now smiling over the universal truth in this strip. How is it that cats can be so annoying and so adorable at the same time?
Happy Bunday, orbsters and orbabies! It’s a good thing my coffee cup was empty when I saw Lupin’s expression in the third panel. It’s a nice change to see Elvis so happy and carefree, I wonder if he really used to do that with the baby’s rattle.
Someone tell Ms Dunn that it’s “Where are our toys?”, not “Where’s our toys?” and it’s “toys in threes,” not “toys in 3’s.” If she knows no better, then it’s back to remedial English for her.
Recently, someone new to this site asked about “the rules.” Someone else replied (accurately) that there weren’t any formal rules, except to be kind and support each other. Those of us who’ve been here for a while have come to the point where we are able to be kind about little quirks of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I’m relieved to see that and not see people being called out for de minimis construction glitches. When someone shares a creative work, the goal isn’t to produce something perfect, but to make the reader (and oneself) happy. When someone posts on the site, it isn’t to produce something perfect, or to impress everyone else with how smart we are, but to seek and contribute to a sense of community. Thank you all who allow me my imperfections. I come here several times a day for uplifting entertainment, and you never let me down. Hugs and boops to you all, and warm wishes for good things to happen all around.
Yes, Puck, the differences are indeed subtle! Every time I look at this I start laughing again: the expressions, Puck’s chart, the popcorn … just thinking about them as I type this and I’m laughing.
Well once again it’s that time of year around here. The day the cats and dogs hate in this house. Fall Daylight Savings Time. Spring DST is great, food and treats come early (or at least they think they do). Fall DST they come late (again according to the cats and dogs). Try not to change their feeding schedule too much so they really hate Fall DST because it pushes them back an hour.
My wife pulled a toy mouse out of “the drawer” (where the food, catnip and extra Christmas toys are stored), why she did this I don’t know because there are toys everywhere. Reilly adopted this mouse and has been playing with it for 3 days straight, more than any toy he’s ever played with. it is a soft mouse with a tail that feels almost like a real tail. He will bat it around, pounce on it and grab it by the tail and carry it around, he loves it. There’s an extra one on the card if this one gets lost, party bonus!!!

Lupin: What?! Where’s OUR toys?
Elvis: Lupin, it’s true. The People bought a new toy just for me, and it’s awesome.

Puck: Elvis, charts prove 9 times out of 10, the People get us toys in 3’s.
[Pie chart reads
USUALLYTHAT ONE TIME THE WOMAN STEPPED ON MY TAIL]
Elvis: Such a simple machine. [RATTLE RATTLE]
Puck: There are subtle differences.
[Diagram of CAT TOY reads
FEATHER FOR EATINGCRUNCHY BELL CENTERBOLD COLORS
Diagram of BABY TOY reads
SOFT COLORSCRISPY RATTLE CENTERSTICK FOR FLAILING]
Elvis: The Woman and I have this cute game where she’ll take the toy and put it in the Nursery, then I have to sneak in and steal it back!
I KEEP WINNING!
Woman: Gimme that.

Elvis deserves a toy for rescuing Puck! Even though apparently all he needed was the ghost of Winnifred… but it’s the thought that counts!
