Until many changes are made to how women are treated in the military, I definitely wouldn’t want my daughter to join up. I am also not sure that she would be military material, but even if she was, I don’t think it is a fair deal for women. You would think the military would be more accommodating, given their recruitment problems.
After watching a Golden Girls marathon, I was surprised to read that Bea Arthur was a marine in WWII.
From Wiki: During World War II, she worked as a truck driver and typist in the United States Marine Corps Women’s Reserve, receiving an Honorable Discharge in September 1944 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
@GiggleSmith: Y’know, you would’ve fit really well into the mental-health field in the late, unlamented Soviet Union, where anyone who publicly questioned the glories of the worker’s paradise was deemed to be obviously deranged and shipped off to an asylum for a 30-40 year “cure”.
Hypothesis 1: The word ‘gender fluid’ could be Trudeau’s doggy bone tossed to the LGBTQ crowd. Since that crowd can be ferocious, we know that Trudeau will never say opposite things in public.
Hypothesis 2: Got to wonder what Sam and Trudeau mean by the term ‘gender fluid’. For some girls assuming the characteristics of a guy could be appealing in a George Sand sort of way, able to do things girls are inhibited from doing. It could be appealing up to the point when a doctor proposes injecting them with testosterone (will deepen the voice) and cutting off their breasts. …
@gigglesmith and b2plusa2: Did both of you just arrive in a time machine from the 1800s? If much of what you said makes sense, I am the next winner of the Powerball lottery…
@timbob123: The citizens of Iran, Afghanistan, Yemen and other nations where a forever war is underway had no voice in deciding whether or not to participate in those military ventures, regardless of the fact that there children were required to serve. And it is not the citizens of the US who declare a war…
Hee hee! love this! As a GF (gluten free, too!) person, this is < very > refreshing in such an up-to-the-minute way! But, a ‘zoom out’ type question: How come BD and Boopsie get older, where Zonker stays young? Puer Eternis? Blessings, Garry, rock on!

Is BD upset because Sam wants to go into the Marines instead of the Army?

No fluidity allowed in Trump’s armed forces. It’s been in the news lately.

I admire the subtle mannishness of Sam’s jawline, as reinforcement for this new development.

Suddenly BD has a bigger concern than whether Sam joins the Marines. If he doesn’t know what gender fluid means now, he’s going to find out.

After weeks of 20 year old re-runs, It’s quite shocking to see an older Boopsie depicted. Wasn’t ready for that this morning.

I think that without her ignorance, the joke wouldn’t work. This is a comic, after all. Who needs reality here when we have the front page for that?

My cousin joined the Marines. When asked why, she quoted their recruitment slogan:
“THE MARINES WILL MAKE A MAN OUT OF YOU”
