Don’t look now, Sophie, but you’ve got either an apprentice or a saboteur. Q? What Q?

Sophie is such a dedicated artist that she blocks out her surroundings (and loses her “Q”), and is her own critic.

Megan was about to continue when she heard Maxie come in through their back entrance. “Hector has the night’s last coffee, Max, if you’d like some.” “I think I’ll take you up on that, Meg- I don’t think this is going to be a hot tea with honey type of night.” Maxie came back from the kitchen, so Megan continued; “After a while, I was being called upon for all sort of issues- arbitration, mediation, rescue, very few in my neighborhood knew I spoke Human- and I really couldn’t advertise the fact, but being able to speak Dog was an enormous asset. I eventually started putting out “feelers” to see what needed… well, correcting. And there were a lot of requests for help.”

Ah, the joy of process….idea :-) …. sketch, yuck, crumple and toss …. pace, coffee, more pacing …. sketch again, arghhhh, crumple and toss …. nap then chocolate …. back to sketch book, sigh, take a walk ….. put idea away for a time …. find something that supports idea, joy and rapture …. sketch. Rinse and repeat until the stars align and the piece is created. Move to gallery (being sure to have glue, wire, staple gun, etc to repair as needed) driving gently and avoiding sudden stops. Opening reception, being asked to say a few words about your process….nooooooo! , lurk near your work and agonize over random comments, wonder if anything will sell, grouse with fellow artists over gallery percent of anything that sells, rapture when a sale is made especially if the sold tag goes on at opening night. And so it continues because it must.

Good morning, orbsters and orbabies! I’m back! I spilled water on my laptop on Tuesday while trying to install my new printer. Called my IT guy, who had me bring it in right away. Motherboard and hard drive seemed dry, but as a precaution he put them in a special drying chamber. When I went in yesterday to check, he was testing both and they were OK. Keyboard is pooched, though, and a new one has been ordered. I am currently typing with an external computer keyboard balanced on my laptop, but it’s definitely better than typing with one finger on my cell phone!!

A blast from the eighties from Atlantic Starr: Masterpiece

A simple touch of your paw

And your art is just right

The way you say “There and Wait”

    While working through the night

    You’ve shown the refrigerator

    A beauty before unknown,

And now I thank you, Soph, Thank you Soph

    Every day the magnets move

    With artwork so brand new,

You work with all the magnets here

    Except the letter Q,

    A perfect piece of artwork,

    From Soph for everyone,

And yes we love it so, we let you know

We’ve found a masterpiece in you,

A work of art it’s true,

We and Tommy are all in awe,

We’ve found a masterpiece in you,

    Even without the Q,

And we treasure all of you!

Hey, I was just wondering when we’d see Tabitha again. Our own elderly Calico Alpha Female just passed away. She was nearly 13, had mostly lost her voice (Grandma said she mostly just whispered to us now.), and went out how she would have wanted to go (Picking a fight with something much larger than herself) with little pain but it has kind of shaken up the house.

This is like the Simpson joke where Homer (preparing to do voice-over work) asks if they draw the cartoons while he is talking. (No, it’s too hard on the animator’s wrist.) Watching an artist at work is like watching paint dry (sometimes literally).

    UPDATE:

My day began with a trip to Home Depot. Welding gloves. Better safe than bleeding.

Vet appointment at 4:30 so we started the round up. The kittens are all easy-peasy now. Scoop them up and plop them into the carrier. They are even starting to play with us. Just a little, then they suddenly realize we are giant humans. But a small rest and they are back for some mouse action or even a mild wrestle with the giant hand monster.

Trixie? Mmmmmm. Did I mention the welding gloves? We caught a break as she was not behind the toilet. We caught another break because we have learned that covering her head with the towel mostly stops the struggles to escape.

Getting the towel in place? Hmmmmm. Did I mention the welding gloves? We’ve never tried to put her in a carrier before so we our goal is to cocoon her in a bath towel. She doesn’t try to escape immediately, but figures it out quickly. She’s pressed against the tub surround which has a low kickspace like your kitchen cabinets. Only a couple inches deep but I have to pry her out to get the towel around her.

Hmmmmm. Did I mention the welding gloves? During the prying process the gloves earn their keep. She got 3 or 4 bites in. Sort of funny look on her face as she realized the tried and true method wasn’t working, and what heck is that nasty leather flavor? Towel on body, trying to get it flipped over her face. I won’t go moment by moment, but the cocooning was tough at first then easy once her vision was obscured.

Off to the vet. We got Dr. Oliver this time. Yayyyy! Nice, kind, patient and very gentle and knowledgeable. Kittens first, weighing, inappropriate touching (HEY, get away from my….oooooh), stethoscoping (make you wish you had fur, no cold shock for kitties) and all the rest. Blood samples plus antibiotic shots for Ginger and Tortie. Same respiratory stuff Bandit has. And all 3 have conjunctivitis. No surprise there.

    (continued)

For Trixie the process is a little different. Instead of uncrating in the exam room for weighing and such then carting her into the back for blood and such she goes straight to the back in the carrier. Doc says she did really well as long as her head was covered. Just resigned herself and tried to make like none of this was happening. None of the vet techs were bleeding or screaming, so it must have worked out OK.

She is 9 pounds and got a shot for the same respiratory infection the kittens have. We did not have a fresh monster turd sample to bring in so the worm verdict is still on hold. Gave her the rabies and distemper vaccinations but didn’t do kitty luke since she will be an indoor cat. Scheduled for her spay in about a month when she will get the distemper booster and a worm check/worming

BTW, kittens do NOT have any dread diseases. Their blood work came back before we left. Trixie had a broad spectrum panel that was sent out. No results yet, but the absence of nasty stuff in the kids means a near certainty Trixie has a clean bill as well. We are breathing sighs of relief from more anxiety than we were aware we had.

BTW, Trixie has GINORMOUS bladder. Which releases under stress. Hmmmmm. Did I mention the welding gloves? They work great but they will NOT prevent your jeans from getting soaked with cat pee. Thought you would want to know that so you could make an informed buying decision.

New Kitten!!! I have a new kitten that I brought home from the shelter on Tuesday! November 6, 2018 is her coming home day and mid-August is her guestimated birthday. Haven’t found her name yet. She is all black, and extremely affectionate. So far there have been sightings between her and Kira, but keeping them separate for now. Now I need to go and check on her. More updated to come!!!!

Onyx is still confined to the “kitty condo” AKA the bathroom to let her Seresto collar get rid of the fleas. Sis gave her a good combing & found a live flea, so another day at least… Onyx LOVED the combing & really got her motor revved up. She’s also face-marking everything in the room, especially (believe it or not) her carrier!

The Dreaded V.E.T. called & said all her blood tests are normal except that her sugar is on the high side, so sis has to stop giving her crunchyf00dz & just give her gushyf00dz (which are lower in carbs). I’m sure Onyx won’t mind that at all, being nearly toothless! The Dreaded V.E.T. says the elevated sugar might be due to all the stress of losing her humom & doggy bro & moving to a new place, & there’s enough blood left over to do the kitty equivalent of an A1C. When she goes back for her other shots next month they’ll draw more blood & do another test.
