Here’s a thought: Why don’t you just ask her what she wants for Christmas? That’s a lot better than trying to surprise her with things she doesn’t want! It’s also a lot less stressful!
One of my goals in life is to see how often I can get my kids to do the face-palm from the final panel.I succeed frequently….. they life a life of quiet desperation! :-)
Maybe I am just odd, but I was extremely happy when my husband got me my own video game system and some games for Christmas/my birthday (my birthday is 5 days after Christmas.) It is the one thing in the house that is “just Mommy’s” and I love it. I don’t care for jewels, fancy clothes or make up, etc. And we usually just get the kids gifts, honestly. But every now and then, we surprise each other.
The romantic gifts had to take a back seat this Christmas. The appliance gods were raining on our Christmas parade and I had to have the refrigerator repaired, buy a new stove/oven, replace a couple of well worn and very old small appliances and my laptop.
I buy my esposa marvellosa flowers, perfume, and little presents throughout the year – there doesn’t have to be any occasion or holiday, I just like to surprise her. The gift we both value and are happy to give and receive, anytime, is love and respect.
I laughed at the tire idea because my wife has been dreaming about getting a car. Just the other night, I was joking that the only thing I could afford, at the moment was the four tires to go under it. In truth, we’ve both been saving to buy one and will probably buy it in January. We could easily finance the purchase, but neither of us like making interest payments. If we can’t afford it, we don’t buy it.
Two things. First, he may be teasing Lizzie about the tires. Then, consider that this little girl has the sense and moxie to know what to give and what not to give. She’s pretty sharp for a little kid.

Why would you give her tires?

John, you are hopeless! Maybe what Elly needs is a new husband. Or you need a brain transplant.

Jewelry, cashmere, spa treatment….something luxurious that she wouldn’t buy for herself.

It’s late in the seasons for Canadians to put snow tires on. If Elly’s car needs snow tires, it should not be as a Christmas present.
