I’m not a heavy drinker, and I understand how Janis feels. Once a month or so I bring home the empty bottle from the wine we use for communion and put it in our recycle bin. We buy it by the gallon and decant it into a smaller, more manageable size liter bottle, but I always wonder what our trash men think we do. They collect in the wee hours, so probably never notice, to tell the truth.
100 ml ~= 4 oz 750 ml = 7.5 glasses/2 people ~= 4 glasses/person over 14 days. That does not seem excessive. I, for one, enjoy a 4 oz glass of wine with my supper
She must be related to my Grandmother. Had an Anniversary Party 50 years ago for some relative. 30-40 people. Monday – my GM is picking a few beer bottles and a whiskey bottle out of the trash can and tells me to put it out for the trash truck. I ask why not ALL of them? Yes – she was worried what the trashman would think. I then explained (man splainin’) that if we put them all out it would be a party. Several dozen a week for a month is a drinking problem. great memory.
Once I got past my rebellion party stage after HS, I rarely drank, occasional wine with dinner if we had company or maybe on w/e if we were watching a movie – but for past 20 years haven’t been able to have any alcohol due to a medication I take – I really miss the occasional glass, what I miss most is the Mimosas my hubby always made on Holiday mornings -only time we had them, so it was a special treat and tradition that I miss.
Actually, while I think it is silly, the concern that Janis is feeling about having a clerk see her buy wine “regularly”…. I can still commiserate with her. I do not drink much, but I do feel conspicuous anytime I do buy any alcohol… because some folks do act rather “judgey” at times. I have felt that way about a lot of things over the years…. whether it was my pipe tobacco or pretty much damn near anything people can and do make into a “controversial” item.

If you are that concerned about being seen buying booze, it’s time to go to AA.

Don’t worry about the wine; most cashiers are so overworked they wouldn’t notice if you were Betty Ford…

The only people in my community that know me by name is my mechanic, and the guy that owns the liquor store.

Wine? From a grocery store?

And waited ten minutes for another cashier who was over 21 to come over to scan the bottle… (sigh)
