The very first weather prediction program got pretty good results, but to get tomorrows weather prediction, it had to run for about 30 hours. (This isn’t supposed to be funny: The weather folk got it right, and then worked on getting it fast. Meanwhile when it got done cranking, you could check it’s results immediately.)
I remember how, on Star Trek TOS, all Scottie had to do was recalibrate the warp engines to get another 15% out of them. I’d always just roll my eyes at (1) the idea that if he could do that, why hadn’t he already done it years ago and (2) that’s not what recalibration means. Recalibration is when you take a volume knob labelled 1-10 and relabel it 1-11. It’s still the same maximum decibel level, you’ve just got a different number attached to it.

I’ve heard of teachers’ houses getting tp’ed, but a teacher getting tp-rolled?

She’d probably go for Granny’s cold remedy—tastes horrible but it makes your head or chest cold go away in eight or ten days.

One of Caulfield’s better pranks. But also one of Mrs. Olsen’s if she can get rid of him for that length of time.

Mrs. Olsen can’t be falling for this

As I said a few days ago, I do hope Caulfield appreciates what Mrs Olsen is doing for him in his formative years.

How’d she get to be a teacher? Standards must be very low in that state.

Everybody talks about how seeing is believing, but maybe the bigger truth is that believing is seeing.
I see that a lot these days, even if I don’t want to believe it. Which, that just didn’t help things at all.
