Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and all the other lame âsocial networksâ are just pathetic attempts to get attention. The fact that they are so popular is pretty sad.
Sandfan, Iâm not so sure about your opinion on facebook et alâŠthanks to facebook, Iâve reconnected with friends I hadnât seen in years, found some long-lost family members, and made some really good new friends too (yes, I DID meet them in personâŠ.lol), so for me, facebook has been a blessing. I guess it all depends how you use itâŠ

No need to be sad and fear them as they wonât hurt you.
La pluma es la lengua del alma (the pen is the tongue of the soul) -Miguel de Cervantes
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask and heâll tell you the truth. -some guy calling himself âBrianâ
These illustrate a mechanism: a person twittling on his little device, sending his thoughts to others⊠itâs fascinating, addicting. For some. I think you sort of have to have a hole in your soul for it to fill. I guess thatâs Trudeauâs point here⊠a warning to us.
I agree with paul345 on the facebook point. Facebook is the only way I get to see pictures of my two nieces (and yes, I do get to see them occasionally in person). Given they live quite a distance away from me I donât get to see them in person very often.
Twitter has a place in the world, for sure. It is not only about celebrities. Overnight field trips for schools is an example of a great use. We have all seen Twitter being used effectively in places like Iran as well. Twitter can be a great resource.
@pappyfiddle; itâs not whether what he says is true or not, but whether itâs worth saying at all.
And @junco49 gives the best example of ânot worth sayingâ Iâve ever seen - unless youâre a zen master. I award @junco49 the Zen Master trophy for the most irrelevant twitter - for this week.
Roland certainly has a way with words. It IS Roland, right?
Not a tweeter, not a booker, not much of anything at all. Just maintaining 64 servers (14 virtual with Hyper-V) and a couple of thousand computers so that my peeps can tweet and twit and book.
Itâs gotten to the point that when I see Roland tweeting, I just go to the next comic. This one I started to read, and regretted it instantly. What a waste.
ânighthawksâ: you have to put more aluminum foil around your head. It worked for me. I can see the internet real good, now! What nurse? Time for my âhappy pillâ already? Well, ok.
To those who didnât understand him: Donât worry about it. I think the point is that, for all his tweeting, he didnât say anything. There was nothing to understand.

Think: âGonzo Journalism,â plus Fox, plus Sarah Palin. & remember, âTweets are for birdbrainsâ. (While Twix are for kids.)

Twitter does not attract me. The way it warps language is downright aggravating.

Texting - the death of the English language.

Wonderful. You do an amazing job of bridging the Ted Baxter generation and Zits. Keep that cutting edge and ignore the fogies.

Our English friends would say WE are itâs death, wild. I suspect Spanish will be the death of it here before too long.

The comic is as annoying as the real thing. Congrats, Gary! Problem is: no one likes either one.

Self absorption at its finest. A good commentary on our modern society.

Finally, a cartoonist who understands the phases of the moon and when you would see a crescent in the sky, and which side is lit up! Thank you GT!

sandfan, Twitter, Facebook, etc. started out as âpathetic attempts to get attentionâ.
Now, however, they are the commercial and political marketplace of conversation. For the world. No going back.
junco49 about 14 years ago
Just now I was breathing in except now Iâm breathing out. Not quite sure which is more important. Will get back to you later on this.

Internet social network sites, texting, tweeting all are showcases for exhibiting the breadth and depth of humanityâs shallowness.

And now, ripped from Garry Trudeauâs circular file, the original dialogue for this comic!
Panel 1: âThought experiment: Set âMass. murderâ aside for a moment. Now, how is Obama NOT like Ted Kennedy? NOW whoâs nutty?â
Panel 2: âGocomics limiting tag length to 20 characters really annoyingââDoonesburyâ itself uses 10.â
Panel 3: âaList celebs include Blue Man Group, Shields & Yarnell, Mummenschanz. Suspecting bootleg.â
Panel 4: âMy youngest said something really cute last night. Made me regret nixing gig ghosting âFamily Circusâ.â
Panel 5: âU know u r old when paleontologist mistakes you for fossil.â
Panel 6: ââQuality timeâ with Blondie Bumstead (A: theyâre real and theyâre spectacular).â
Panel 7: âSlogging thru Aaron Sorkinâs âSpongebobâ remakes on Hulu. Canât wait for âOpposite Dayâ 2 be over.â
Panel 8: â@Batiuk: when u look back on yr life, do u think uâll regret March 2006 onward? Hope so!â
