Reminds me of the end of Calvin’s poem for Mother’s Day: “There, I said it. Now I’m done. So how about getting out of bed and cooking breakfast for your son?”

Ah, the delicate balance of love – hubby who spends $3.96 on a perfume from the discontinued rack versus wifey who finishes the prime rib, lobster tail, and champagne and says “Thanks for the snack” (or vice versa). Today this is our version of an O. Henry story all too often.

    Opal to Earl:

    Roses are red,

There are cans on the shelf…

    I’m going out to dinner…

    You can cook for yourself.

First poem I ever wrote to my wife, she lived in Washington state before we got married:

    A snow covered mountain

    A grass covered hill

    The beauty of these

    I’ve had my fill

    Their beauty does

    By comparison fade

    To you my darling

    Who I wanna get laid.

at least, Opal, it is an easy fix for a valentine gift for Earl – one can opener coming up!

    a poem -

    a meal -

    an easy solution -

    to a Valentine’s gift deal
