As Splitface heads off with Zelda to parts unknown, we get a teaser for the upcoming story, I presume: a man sits writing at his trusty typewriter (in the Great Smoky Mountains?) while talking to someone off-screen. Who could this be and what is he up to?
judging b the arms on the glasses in the last panel they are different than the ones he is wearing
the ones in the final panel have “hooked” ends to them which would wrap around the entire back of the ear for a more secure fit, while the ones he is wearing (from what we can see) are standard normal arms.
Correct me if im wrong (and I am certain you will) but didn’t Bribery wear the glasses with the “hooked arms”? These look slightly different, but then again this IS Dick Tracy so maybe he just got new frames off panel and its just something we have to deal with ;)
“Unfortunately, your last few posts got rather testy.” Intriguing. The Typer confronts a malcontent, and the conversation could turn deadly. Having taken off his glasses and set down his stogie, might he become a man of action, rather than words?
Did this guy buy his obsolete typewriter from Polar Vortex? Did the person he is talking to send him letters or posts? Or, is he so old fashioned he uses the term “posts” to mean “mail?”
Very distracting to interrupt the climax of the kidnapping of Zelda. When next we see her, who knows what will have happened off panel? Talk about slamming the story momentum into a brick wall.
While we will have to wait (until Sunday?) for more of the Splitface story, I have no problem with a teaser for what’s waiting down the road. When this and other stories become part of an e-book (Calling Dick Tracy! Vol. II has long been delayed due to issues with the reorganization/sale of TMS properties), there will be no delayed gratification. Tracyville is a big city. There is a lot more going on than one escaped lunatic. I for one am curious about the Typer, his “testy” guest, and the connection to the Great Smokey Mountains.
Well, this dropped in out of nowhere! But I’ll play the game….
Could the bound and gagged “guest” of the Typist be Wendy Wichel? Her posts are almost always testy, or something like it (snarky, sardonic, cynical, bitchy, insinuating, accusatory—you get the picture). If so, the Typist could be a demented old former newspaperman. But this is idle speculation; what’s happening with Zelda and Clybourne in Splitface’s clutches? That’s what I want to know.

Yup, gotta inject something else in the middle of the storie’s climax, as usual….keep the excitement down…..

I think this new introduction is also a disociative disorder, talking to himself. Or to his typewriter.

Judging by the plain glasses, it’s a pretty safe bet Elton John isn’t making a guest appearance…

A new twist, what will transpire? Stay tuned Tracy fans!

Yes, the implication that it’s the typewriter that is receiving the posts is silly.

From the lack of response and the ominous mood, wouldn’t be at all surprised if Mr. Glasses’ “comfortable” guest is bound and gagged.

looks like another psyco villian! splitface’s brother?? Zelda’s jilted lover? seems to be a nice guy.

Itchy Oliver wore thick eyeglasses and smoked cigars. Tracy killed him, but comics.

Once again Joe & Mike show off their ability to bring the narrative momentum to a screeching halt.
