Yep, the rules of English are about the weirdest out there. Does Petey ruffle his hair when chasing a hare?

Not sure about fur, but “hair” seems to be one of those topics that bring out the worst in Wikipedia authors. About a million lines, and extravagantly sourced.

Of course there’s a difference between hair and fur. One has three letters, the other has four.

Hair grows on my head. Fur grows on my back.

I love the inconsistency of english. Make up your own rules and then have a little “hair of the dog”.

I believe that “fur” is a type of hair that grows to a certain length and then stops. So, our body “hair” is really body “fur”.

Well, I have had a little ‘hair of the dog’ and swept up dog hair, but when I brush it I call him a furry friend. Horses are pretty much all about hair. I think the mane and tail sort of take them out of the fur category Odd that.

A daily battle. But to me, so worth it.

Some dogs have hair and some have fur. Dogs with double coats have fur and dogs with a single coat have hair. Huskies, Shepherds, Mountain Dogs etc have fur. Poodles, Maltese’s, Yorkshire Terriers etc have hair. Been a groomer for 39 yrs, big differences in coat types.

It has to do with thickness of individual strands – thick filaments = hair, thin filaments = fur

I thought hair was solid and fur was hollow.

Dogs have hair. Fluffy things have fur.
