I hate and despise morning “news” infotainment! I don’t care what celebrity chef is making breakfast for some random viewer. I don’t care the latest exercise/diet/beauty trends are. I just want actual news relevant to the workings of my government and my economy. The rest is just a waste of time.
This is why I enjoy watching news when I visit my relatives in Ireland. Europeans are much better educated on world events including those going on in the United States than Americans.
When I worked in the drug store, it bothered me that we got 2-3 copies of Time & Newsweek and often had some to return. We got at least a dozen each of National Enquirer & others like it & sold out.
I seem to remember reading of something called ‘yellow journalism’ back in the day. I am not a fan of the Trumpet, however, I know there is false news out there and many people pickup on it whether they mean to or not. I believe a few people successfully sued the National Enquirer and other new papers for spreading false statements. It is getting harder to tell the difference between fact and fiction. Even common sense is not a good rule of thumb any more be cause sometimes the facts are so not common sense.
I like comedy: I watched a CNN (reporter) grill a Republican congressman and she seemed to expect an answer to the question she asked, now that`s funny.
Without the press democracy is dead. Without a free and unfettered press, people have no way to know what is going on with their government. Therefore it is the first thing would-be dictators attack. Trump attacked the press from day one. Then the justice system. Then the legislature. Then the military and police. It is an old formula, but it still works. Weaken the core institutions and the whole thing crumbles.
I miss the likes of Morrow, Cronkite, Huntley-Brinkley, Reasoner, MacNeil/Lehrer, Woodward, Bernstein and a handful of other journalists who had/have more integrity and credibility than any current on-air anchors, commentators and reporters. All of the above would rather quit the news business (or in some cases punch out the editor) than the daily, or hourly for that matter, trite that is thrown out there 24-7 nowadays.

Why hear about a priest giving communion, when you can hear about a local man plying teenage girls with alcohol?

Problem these days is the people who’s job it has always been was to give us the “info” are far to wrapped up in dishing out the “tainment” instead.

Politics has replaced sports as entertainment. It’s all hype, lies don’t matter, it’s all just for fun.

It’s their defense when someone calls them out for the constant Lies.
Because there is no Legal requirement that Infotainment be True.
