Looking like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle
Mordred swings his chain as he jumps a hurdle
Through the air he soars like a hawk
Now, if only he wouldn’t talk
Revenge he seeks on our fabled dick
Who knew that it was this that makes him tick
Lightly he trips the fantastic
Though indeed he looks rather spastic
Tracy stands rooted to the spot
He cannot fathom how the chains off were got
Meanwhile back at the sty
Liz(z) wants to know the reason why
What good news can there be
Nothing here that I can see
The same old thing day in and day out
Until it makes me want to shout.
The Frog of Doom is back! Merde’s leap is exactly what you would expect from a giant mutated frog!
The good news? If Locher had used a different Horn Hair stencil, then she would realize that a new person has entered Police Hooters. This proves that it’s possible to travel during the Storm of the Century. And who is this person? It’s a French chef in a clever disguise, and he’s got a recipe for frog’s legs.
Someday English lit students will have to write papers exploring exactly how Wonder Warthog managed to come up with hundreds and hundreds of original poems about something so unchanging.
Meanwhile, back at the blanch, I guess Thick forgot that he removed the chains and all while helping Morbid escape the sunken car, and then replaced them when they emerged from the water. He did a lousy job of replacing them. As for Morbid’s leap, it’s an accident. He tripped over the garbage lying on the floor in panel #2.
And the homoerotic Genesis jokes continue in panel #3, with Horn Hair making her “spill” joke as Onan appears.
NVash, it could be that the mask is part of Locher’s incompetent way of telling a story. A lot of very bad movie villains have worn masks, so if Locher puts his bad guy in a mask, it means he is very bad. The same goes for that endless repetition of a few ideas. All the cops say Mordred is bad. Mordred says and thinks bad things. Thick taunts Mordred with his badness. And it goes on for over two months, to build up the impression that Mordred is bad.
Locher could have done the job in two panels. Horn Hair could have said “It’s Mordred, the worst serial killer we’ve ever handled.” Thick could have said “The freak who made necklaces out of children’s finger bones?” For that matter he could have given the bad guy a relevant name. And what happened to those early references to Camelot? There hasn’t been a hint of the Arthurian legenbds since then. Nothing to make the name of Mordred fit the story.
I love the way Locher draws a uniformed policeman. He makes him look like a South American Banana Republic Dictator in parade dress, complete with the “fruit salad” board of ribbons on his chest. The only thing missing is one of Locher’s little informative arrows pointing to the cop identifying him as “El Presidente”.
Araldite, that’s a wet spot and it ain’t rainwater. For 2 months now, Thick wouldn’t let Mordred pee (by himself).
C’mon y’all. It’s easy to see what’s going to hapen. Twenty days from now when Mothra finally grabs Trick, his chain will snag on a formerly invisible pipe. When Mothra makes contact with Trick, it will cause Trick to fall, and Mothra will end up hanging himself.
In panel #2, Merde’s upper and lower body do not match up. In panel #1, he’s twirling the chain in his right hand. If the chain remains in his right hand for panel #2, we must be looking at his back. But then what does the diagonal shading below his belt mean? How can that be his backside? Or has he for some reason stopped twirling the chain and taken time to switch it to his other hand?
So here we go again. This is going to be like the episode before the last one when the faceless guy chased Tracy all over creation until the bad guy was crushed by the Stuka in the museum. Except that this time the bad guy chases Tracy everywhere while wielding his chains.
Also, the last time I recall, Tracy still had his gun. So just shoot the S.O.B. for crying out loud!

I read ahead too. My take is that Thick redeems himself slightly, but otherwise this is drek.
About redeeming himself: It had to be done. There’s nowhere to run and hide, so that option is out. Locher can’t afford to kill Thick this coming week, too much time to fill until he retires. So, Thick actually does something that makes sense. Who’da thunk it?

Flight Suit: The spinning chain acts as a rotor and gives him lift for short distances.
That, and all his years as a ballet dancer doing those jetes.

The best I can do on the source of Mordred’s name and mask is here:
http://brattleblog.brattlefilm.org/?p=258
Maybe Locher or Brozman saw John Boorman’s 1981 production of “Excalibur.”

…In the second panel, it really looks like he intends to take Dick Tracy by the—hand. (dig it if you can!)…
Actually, Morbid is testing the Dickster to see if he knows the Secret Handshake, in which case Morbid will be forced to spare him.

What makes you think it’s a mask?

I think I found a proofreading error in the second panel: please remove the word “think” from the first balloon…

Either that, or there should be a period between “you” and “think”. :)
@WW: Great work as always. Loved this one!
@Bassman: I hope all is going well for you.

“Is that a Gatling gun in your pocket or are you really happy to see me?”
But with that detail-free silhouetting that Locher uses, how can you be sure we’re seeing the Full Mordred? That could be his posterior.

For a sedated man in a soaked leather jumpsuit, Mordred is quite limber.

A totaly amazing leap through the AIR, for a man that’s sedated (?).
Without that impediment to slow him down, Tracy would be a dead man already !
Locher sure knows how to “pencil” them in ! – Bringing action figures to Dick Tracy !
