The definition of insanity is, ‘Doing the same thing over and over again the same way and expecting a different result each time’. Their dates always seem to go the same way.
Ah. Luann yells ENOUGH! Shades of this past April, when an exasperated Gunther demanded that the “gang” leave him and Bets, alone. Karma in full force here!
But did Doug merely take a trip to the “Mens’ Room and the gang is overacting? Or did he get bored with Luann? Or did Luann ask him to leave?
But if Doug DID leave? Then Okay Jack fans. This is His/Your Last Chance for him to make move with Luann. The Big Lug should ask her out, and make her feel wanted. At least she’ll be going out with a guy she knows and sort of trusts, I guess. But don’t invite Tara this time.
I STILL say Jack and Lu aren’t a “match” though……….,
I’m sure that Doug noticed that the group was staring at his table. This made him very uncomfortable. I know I would feel that way. When I had dates with girls. I would never want an audience!
With all the signals she was making preparing to end the date, did it not ever cross her mind that she might be the reason it ended? That he could not find her interesting or worth pursuing; looks like she got a taste of her own medicine before she could use it on Doug
Awww. Luann is upset, but Jack really tries to cheer her up. He looks so concerned for her. I hope that Luann will be able to calm down and move on beyond a bad date.
From the look Luann is giving Tiffany, I think it might be best if TJ reassigned her to different section. Otherwise he might be short one waitress in training, and, Ox will have a nice mess to clean up.
Obviously Doug is NOT Luann’s man. He’s just a connection that didn’t work out. And Tiffany is just being Tiffany. She always wants whatever Luann has at the time and she flirts shamelessly with any guy in sight. What I’d like to know is why this date didn’t work out. Luann clearly was throwing out HELP ME signals to Jack, which were ignored or blocked by Tiffany. Why was she doing this so early on in the date?
Once my husband and I were out to dinner. This couple sitting next to us were having a very uncomfortable first date so they seized upon US for some reason and started commenting about us and narrating to each other everything we were doing such as taking a bite of food or a sip of tea. Finally I said “you know we can totally hear you!” They were embarrassed as all get out but everyone laughed and it finally broke the ice for them and they relaxed and got on with their evening and allowed us to get on with ours.
Apropos of nothing but here goes: Doug was only a prop, we probably will never see him at all, or even again as a prop. Luann did not do well with an internet date, no surprise. The person who she should consider, and who should consider her, is sitting next to her, he shows genuine concern for her feelings. Tiffany is just being Tiffany, and her natural competition with Luann. Luann is not that concerned with Doug, but reacts with kind of an “oh there goes Tiffany being Tiffany again” kind of thinking. Why cast out a line for any fish in the sea, when the big fish is sitting right next to you Luann would be my take.
Jack FTW. We’ll learn that Doug was a creep, this week, or that he wants sexy time too soon. I’m smelling too much white bread wholesomeness coming, but there is also the possibility of Doug getting an emergency call-away of his own that could be legit. So many directions this could go, but Jack looks like he is entering a romantic phase with our Lu, as I had predicted. I have also predicted that he would meet a tragic fate, and that it’s still Gunther & Lu at the end. The analog of where we are would be early Season 4 of HIMYM.
I’m thinking Luann finally realizes there is another person on a date with feelings and a story, besides her. Although, the way Tiff was describing the laughter, it seemed some parts of the date were ok. The gang is just concerned. Guess we’ll find out more tomorrow.
The degree of the Tiffany character’s excess weight varies from strip to strip. I propose this is caused by Greg’s inability to come to grips with an overweight Tiff. When Tiff was svelte, buff, whatever, he seemed to have no problem consistently portraying her as such.
He seems to have a similar problem with Jack. He has varied from brutish to Clark Kent-like, depending on the degree of his relationship with Luann.
I would think that using an online dating site would enhance the chances of a good match because people can really get to know each other and make sure that they have interests in common before meeting in the flesh. I think Bets and Gunther communicated extensively about their shared interests before meeting. So the match was a good one, in spite of the fact that Gunther was rudely texting Luann on his 1st date. I’m guessing that Luann didn’t make that good connection with Doug before meeting; perhaps they did not have enough in common to overcome the awkwardness of a 1st date.

From Luann’s expressions during the date with Doug, I believe it did not go well from the start, in spite of the spectator’s gallery.
