Having lived on a restricted diet for more than 20 years, you just have to become creative in the kitchen and adapt your favorite foods to fit the dietary restrictions.
Gout is considered a form of arthritis. It is controllable by diet and medicine. If I remember right it is formed by uric acid crystals forming in the extremities. It is not just a “rich man’s disease”. A friend of mine suffered from gout. Bologna can cause a flare up.

My Dad was put on a low-sodium diet last week and for him (especially at his age), it is a big adjustment to make!

oh i know the pain, of the gout and the diet. a lot of favorite foods have to be cut back.

A few years ago I had gout and I was so ticked off that my favorite vegetable, spinach, and fruit, blue berries, were on the do not eat list.

Regular exercise works just as well as dietary changes. Ironically, the worse gout gets, the more difficult exercise becomes.
