I don’t think they can be more than a couple of blocks away.

Susie will take Hobbes in, but you Calvin, I don’t know, maybe Rosalyn or Mrs. Wormwood would.

They appear to have eaten all the sandwiches. No one is carrying a bag.

When you get back, I’m sure you won’t get to see the great outdoors for a while, Cal. Enjoy while you can!

There are some of us who don’t want to go home again. My childhood was less than Leave It To Beaver good.

I loved this day’s strip when I was a kid. Calvin and Hobbes on their own, wandering to an unknown goal, not knowing what lies bfore them… This strip has a gravity that you don’t often see in comic strips.

    I don’t know what I’m searching for,

I never have opened the door.

Tomorrow may find me at last,

Turning my back on the past.

But time will tell of stars that fell,

    A million years ago.

Memories can never take you back,

    Home, sweet, home.

You can never go home any more. ~ Justin Hayward

Brings to mind his last strip. Has it really been 24 years since his last strip: “It’s a magical world, Hobbs, ol’ buddy,…let’s go exploring!”? https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1995/12/31

Yes, there are similarities but that last strip was much more optimistic. That time, Calvin was happy and seeking new adventures. This time, he feels guilty and is genuinely in fear for his life. I remembered this story arc as very light-hearted compared to the burglary story which preceded it but it does indeed have a dark edge through Calvin’s fears.
