I am completely drawn to the panel 2 picture of the mule, the monkey, the elevator and the rubber glove the monkey is putting on as if he is getting ready to perform a rectal examination on the mule in order to get it into the elevator.
I’ve never understood why many people feel the need to describe their dreams to people (most of whom end up bored to death hearing about it, but are polite and don’t say anything).
This Sunday strip in the same week as the “Rocko’s Modern Life” special released on Netflix is even more fun. It’s like a wonderful coincidence! So bad that Bernice gives further proof of not being suitable for the role of psychologist by falling asleep while someone tells her a dream.
Beautiful art, and reminds me of my dreams. Lately in year 73 they involve family with me trying to get to them, or try to help them, or doing wacky things together,so that is a good thing.
Luann has such great animated expressions – especially when she says, “The whole dream was so fascinating…”. Luann may warrant a career as an actress. She’s probably better than Jonah.
The only thing more boring than others’ dreams are people who do roleplaying like Dungeons and Dragons and INSIST on telling you their whole blame campaign. When I volunteered for a local science fiction convention, I had a button that said, “I won’t tell you the plot of my novel if you don’t tell me about your lastest campaign.”
I meant to add that people don’t realize what they are telling others about themselves when they tell about their dreams. Freud and Jung would cringe at the obvious announcement of people’s mental problems.
When I was in my late 40’s, I had a dream where I was transported in time back to where I was in 10th grade – I suddenly appeared in my Trigonometry class. I recognized everyone, but no one recognized me as I was at the age I was in my real life (about 47 – 48). After class, I couldn’t remember where my locker was, nor what class I had to go to next. I remember leaving campus and walking home, to see my mom in the kitchen. I decided to not ring the doorbell and approach her. I remember walking all over the town I lived in, then remembered where my wife lived when she was young. I walked by there, and saw my wife and her two sisters playing in their yard – all very young – since I was 16 at the time, she would have been about 8. I looked at the ring on my finger, then decided not to approach them either, that would have been way too weird. I spent the rest of the dream walking around the town and neighborhoods, all pretty much correct to the time some 30 or so years before. Some things and places I saw I had long forgotten as many of them were not there anymore, the dream was that accurate. What a quandary, being trapped in a time I knew I did not belong. When I woke up in the morning, it was as if I was tired from walking all those miles, it all seemed so real. Haven’t had a dream like that since.
From Panel 1, it is obvious that Luann exhibits insecurities in her sexual identity and gender role differentiation. Panel 2: Luann was traumatized by her gynecologist (possibly proctologist) at a formative period in her life. The monkey-doctor symbolism is classic, while the mule is obvious deep-seated and repressed aggression. Panel 3 shows that Luann is crazy! A certified looney! — Dr. I. M. Toejam, PDQ, WTF, LmsFT. Bored Certified.
This sounds like one of of those jokes that start: A priest, a rabbi, a mule, and a monkey with a rubber glove walk into a bar. The bartender asks, “What’ll you have?” And everyone except the monkey says, “A separate table for the monkey.” Okay, okay, I apologize.
Usually dreams relate to real life and the things that weigh heavy on your mind, often presented in a mixed up way. Luann’s last dream was of a cute guy walking up to her and saying how beautiful she was and could he kiss her; makes sense for Luann. This time, I’m wondering what she ate for dinner.

What this dream says about Luann’s innermost psyche is…interesting.

So the monkey walks up to the ass and reaches into his…you know.

Dang. Must have been a big emergency to interrupt Iron Man’s hula lesson. Pepper will not be pleased. She probably got the gumball to kill IT, though.
The mule and monkey seem like they must have been part of a different dream.

I think she should sell the movie rights to her dream.

Why, exactly, are Luann and Bernice still friends?

Take a break, it’s play time for the artist.

I don’t think I want to know what the monkey did after he put on the rubber glove.
On another note, this reminds me of when I tell my family about my dreams. The question is always: how long is it going to take this time?

Really, I never thought much of their friendship. Bernice never was very supportive. Thought they’d grow out of it and find other friends.

Dreams tend to be highly personal and of no interest to anyone who is not paid to listen to every picayune detail (such as a shrink)….
