Where are the parents when Calvin is hurting?

oh, Hobbes, you know just what to say to make Calvin feel at ease

Of course we’d all rather have animals, imaginary or not, as best friends, right?

Nothing like a beloved pet, dog or cat to comfort you when you need it.

Screw the mindset that people are inherently more important than animals.

If I had to choose between rescuing my beloved cat I’ve had for nine years and some random hobo from a fire, I’d choose my cat.

…well, except for tooth and claw

as the old saying goes – a hug in time saves the fine.

Hobbes knows why he exists.

Aaaaaaah….

Soft and huggy, eating each other and eating humans if they are not careful.

Hobbes is soft and huggy sometimes!

I love it, Hobbes! Way to be there when your best friend really needs you!

Sometimes parents just don’t get it, so they end up being not told things like this. Calvin’s parents are kind of clueless anyhow.

Put your head on my shoulder

Watch out for those sharp, sharp bits buried in all that “soft and huggy” however… ;-)

Now in autumn it will become too cold for sitting under the tree together!!

Nothing like a pet after a long, hard day at school or work.

Calvin and Hobbes are getting me through this administration. I come here and find humor, thoughtfulness, love, and compassion. Soooooo grateful!!

It is good to have a friend. We all need a stuffed Hobbes to hug once in a while.

Yea. The cat always seemed to know when I needed to cuddle. Don’t forget, Hobbes is armed.

It’s kinda like Charlie Brown trying to kick that football. Or him always getting a rock for trick or treat.

And people are mean to the soft, huggy animals, too. -We’re a pretty irredeemable bunch.

Well said, Hobbes. Well said.

I still agree with yesterday’s comments: Now Calvin knows how Susie regularly feels.

Mostly due to other people who’s greed outpaces mine.

Great strip! Reminds me of our dog and cats.

Sequences like Moe and the truck… and today’s strip… made me a better Dad. And still do.

Personally, I think the world is a pretty mean place.

Something Moe doesn’t know. Good on you, Calvin.

What I find interesting about the Moe story line is that unlike dealing with teachers or his parents, Calvin did NOT go flying off into one of his typical flights of fancy. No imagining himself as SS dealing with an evil alien, no imagining himself as a hundred foot giant, not even bringing his “vicious tiger” to confront Moe (that last one is interesting). No, this time he faces cold hard reality.

The only thing that makes this world a cruel place is all the humans and their incessant love for themselves.

Animals are soft and huggy? Does that include the animals I’d like to have for a pet (the government won’t let me import them), like gila monsters and monitor lizards?

Mmmpfh. Every year it seems that some sentimental soul thinks that a bear is an adorable fuzzbomb that just want to be hugged.

Sometimes there’s enough left to indentify the decedent.

As far as telling his parents I did the same thing as Calvin. Except I chose to fight. I kept all that sort of thing to myself simply because I did not want to burden my parents nor did I want them to become overly involved. I chose to solve my own problems whenever possible. Kids who get everything fixed for them by their parents seldom develop the resources to live in the real world.

I’d like to add that there were also times I chose NOT to fight. You have to know when to hold “‘em and know when to fold ‘em!!!!!

Now this is like Red and Rover.

My adult children could be hurting and we’d might never know about it. Closeness needs to be taught and cultivated in the growing up years. Hopefully Calvin has parents who do that.

Don’t take Hobbes to school Calvin. Moe might want him too!

Tigers also eat people, so it’s not a full win.

Aaaaaah! So sweet!

I love the comfort provided by Hobbes at this testing time for Calvin. All of us need this emotional and physical support during hard times.
