Diaphanous is transparent under certain lighting conditions and opaque at other times. Best example I know is the formal dance in the Pierce Brosnan re-make of “The Thomas Crown Affair.”

Macmillan dictionary definition of diaphanous: “very light and thin enough to see through.” Janis fell for the marketing spin!
