Gee, Thick, what verdict did that jury deliver? Are you saying they acquitted him? Because the last you saw of Morbid he was alive and well. There’s no evidence that he died in the granary collapse.
Thanks to Locher’s usual inattention to detail, it’s impossible to tell what’s going on in panel #3. Has Morbid been gruesomely dismembered, with his masked head lying next to his left hand and arm? Is he still inside the wrecked granary? Is he outside, and at the edge of the water? Is he alive and trying to raise himself out of the wreckage?
I’m hoping for decapitation, so we can say that the rats came out ahead.
Funny, a day ago Tracy cared. Now everyone is celebrating this mans death. How he died remains a mystery. Id assume the granary collapsed on him but then why would the rats be scurrying on top of him? Maybe they ate him?
Yes, on Sunday we saw Mordred get buried in the collapsing granary. How then is he visible today?
Are we to assume Dick and Sam heroically dug through the building’s wreckage, hoping against hope that Dick’s prisoner might be under there, still clinging to life?
Will we see Thick and Testicle Chin check out the scene and verify that Morbid bit the big one? If he was decapitated, will Thick chortle that Morbid really lost his head in a crisis? Or will Thick show some class as he picks up the masked head. “Alas, poor Morbid!” he says. “I knew him, Testicle Chin. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! my gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now? your gambols? your songs? your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar? Not one now, to mock your own grinning?”
And Testicle Chin says “Just what went on between you two?”
Tracy is, indeed, a very lucky detective. If it ever got out what really happened, there’s no way Thick could avoid going to prison on charges himself. In the real world he’d have plenty of company though, from the people who set up this idiotic transfer scheme, the county sheriff and the entire Napperville police department (for dereliction of duty during the storm, if nothing else). Now, as it is nobody (except us readers) will ever know. Nobody saw it happen and Thick is not likely to explain, and it’s a safe bet that if asked, the “artists” who put this mess together have forgotten what happened. So, Thick is safe.
I thought that Mardred had already been judged by his peers and found guilty? Is that water in the lower left hand corner of panel 3? The granary must hold it like a sponge. I don’t know why everyone is calling Tracy a coward, after all he did jump from the building twice.
Amazingly, (or maybe not, considering) DL managed to never re-reveal what Mo looked like. The ultimate example, as this rather non-creative era is laid to rest, of the paucity of imagination which has been rampant for almost 10 years. Hopefully, this will be rectified starting next week. The bar has been set very, very low gentleman, let’s see if you can reach some Bubka/Fosbury heights.
I agree, Night-gaunt. He died of fear. If I know Napperville PD, there won’t be an autopsy.
I’m just as glad to not see Mordred’s face. It may be laziness on the artist’s part, but I think it’s just as well.
I hope to see all of you back here from time to time enjoying the makeover.
It wouldn’t do any good to have an autopsy if it was done by the same ME who did the one on in the last story. He couldn’t find the cause of death or the identity of the body
The Dick Tracy comic strip once inspired me to draw comics when I was 4 or 5 years old. I see they’re copying some of my first drawings and story ideas. My worst ones at that.
Maybe the Nappervile PD will hire Doc Adams (of Gun Smoke fame) to have a look at Mordred. Doc was know to take a few drinks while working. So, he’ll come up with a good cause of death after a few belts. If Mordred is really dead, that is.
Problem is, you rally can’t tell if Mordred is dead or not in panel 3. The text just says he “was judged”, but there is no mention of execution. Maybe the next team can tie up all the loose ends of this arc? Are they that good?
I know why Liz(z) is grinning. She won the office pot on whether or not Tracy makes it. The guy in the chair behind her is about to slam his fist down on the desk because he bought ten raffle tickets Thick was too stupid to survive. The guy in the Nazi officer’s hat is smiling because he took a side bet that the rats wouldn’t touch Thick with a ten foot pole. The sly devil knew Spacey hadn’t changed his underwear in months!
There won’t be any autopsy because there won’t be much left of him, at least it couldn’t fit in a coffee can, whatever that means. The story is over tomorrow with some rehash on Sunday and Locher’s version of goodbye.
So will Thick drop Mordred’s skull and mask into a box, tape it up and say “He’s a head case–and I just closed the case!” Or give the remains a kick and say “He played games with my head, and now I’m playing games with his!”
Remember, there are still ten panels to go before the new team arrives. That’s ten chances to make lame jokes instead of give reasonable explanations.

I believe “HB” is happy birthday. Maybe Dick Locher sold advertising space to a friend or relative of Terry.

Thanks, M. Mitchell
Mordred isn’t talking, so either he’s dead or he’s developed some common sense. Either way he’s set a good example for all of Locher’s characters.
What’s with Horn Hair’s hair? The horn moves and in panel #1 she looks like she has a sideburn.

So did Tracy actually jump out of the window into a moat? Or was the Sunday strip just a speculation on how things MIGHT end?
