There are a lot of young adult novels, both stand-alone and in series, that pull the readers in. May I suggest Rick Riordan’s works based in Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse mythologies? Maybe Margaret Peterson Haddix’s “The Missing” series? John Flanagan’s “Ranger’s Apprentice” and “Brotherband”?

The joy of self-discovery sometimes requires a little outside assistance.

Why is there a book in with the groceries?

Here in New Mexico, it’s easy to get the children involved in reading – you simply explain to them that if they DON’T read, they’ll grow up to be just like “Trump” – that is usually is sufficient to get their nose in a book.

A book is always “Better” when you think they were trying to Hide It from you.

I once found some books my father really WAS trying to hide. It was “Very Interesting”.

Daddy bit his tongue and bought us Peanuts and Nancy Drew. But every Christmas, he gave us the books he wanted us to read. Ended up being the best presents.
