Mike is employing a technique that never would have worked on him. Michael is taking notes on what the kids are doing and this works for no other reason than the Nichols’ kids fear the reaction of their parents. Even though these kids are monsters around Mike, they do appear to respect their mom and dad, in spite of the conversation the boys have in the last panel. This is the last comic strip we will have with Michael, the baby-sitter, so I guess the NIchols’ boys got their way.
I always struggled with behaviors, because I would never have misbehaved on purpose and couldn’t get in the brain of someone who would. Mike has the advantage here, because he was a normal kid.
Lynn’s Comments: My babysitting chops were earned next door, where I looked after 4 little girls who were determined to see me lose my cool. I learned how to win with dignity, and I not only earned a good job reference, but I also learned a bit about parenting!
Hummm. I’ll bet that would work better with a phone cam now. At least until the kids get a compromising picture of the sitter for a little black mail.
I can’t stand these kids, even though I know they are only comic strip characters. Maybe it’s because I can’t stand kids who act like them in real life.
Today’s strip reminded me about growing and how I could never understand how some kids could think up to do awful or dangerous things on purpose when their parents are our of ear shot. Some kids were just so wild and beyond any kind of boundary when we were out in the park. They were the ones who ran around with bruises all over their foreheads or in a cast on a leg or an arm…
I used to sit for three holy terrors, who once threw a toy out the window so I would go retrieve it and they locked me out. Also the typical getting into Mom’s make-up, and nonsense like the above. Yikes! Brings back memories…and all that for 2 bucks an hour!
Besides, the last time Michael babysat, the kids said their mom lets them have pop and chips when they cannot sleep, so that would probably backfire on him. (Never mind the fact that pop and chips would probably keep them awake).

Christopher, Richard, and their sister (whose name escapes me) sure didn’t think that one through.

This puts Mike on the caliber of Roz, Calvin’s babysitter. Liz has been good practice for him.
