In Panel Three, Wally is either shivering from the cold water, or else he sees the fearsome toothed Somethings heading their way. Somehow I don’t think it’s the local welcoming committee!
Fully inverted… that explains why they materialized upside-down above the water.
Parallels. You never know where they branch off. The ones nearest you have closer CHD than ones “further away” though not in distance more like parameters to measure. If you had a ship that could travel across time instead of along its linear track.
I always like the segments of this tale, where Topsiders willingly cooperate with the main characters. Granted in this case it’s literaly REALITY that’s at stake, but it’s still pretty engaging to see them being on the same team. :)
And so Laundry Attendant Wachenski finds himself leaping from world to world, striving to figure out exactly went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home…
Someone had put forth here in comment land the theory that the “mutations” were actually body swaps between dimensions. State of conciousness has some bearing on which plane a person swaps with. If unconcious, the swap comes from “cardoodle” dimension. If awake, swap with “monster” dimension. Maybe they’ve entered monster dimension.
I wonder if the Topsiders are actually traveling between dimensions trying to find their home dimension. The suits are to protect them. If the suit’s integrity gets compromised, they morph into a being of the current reality they are in… permanently.
I may be way off, but it seems to me that those thingies might be mechanical vehicles. They almost seem to have windows along the sides and above the mouths, plus the “teeth” look a little like strainers.

Let’s see: Sunday’s strip was Friday’s, so today’s strip must be Monday’s.
A topsider that appears trustworthy and is not out to kill the mutants

Wally if you still have your Dittos, this would probably be a good time to put them to work.

Lighter than air? Possibly thin, relatively fragile, blimp-like creatures, and not as fearsome as they look. Krill (equivalent) straining “teeth”?
