Pig has a bow tie where his mouth should be. Did someone else shove his bow tie in his face?

He should have ended the sentence with, “…for coffee.” Then she could have pretended the question was about coffee and just said, "No thanks, I never drink coffee after five pm, it gives me heartburn. But of course, that wouldn’t have been punny.

I’m only a thick ex-lorry-driver, but can someone tell me which is the preposition in that sentence? “My place” looks like a noun to me… I’m sorry if I appear ignorant in front of all you esteemed academicians…

“Proposition”, a come-on, not “preposition”. This is for those who went to school after the 70’s.

The preposition is “to”, but it doesn’t end the sentence, so you’re fine. How thick was your lorry ?(Just kidding !)

OK, grammar alert here. In English, despite what you have been taught in elementary school, it really is OK to end a sentence with a preposition, which is why it seems to some to be such a pervasive problem. English is a Germanic language, where doing so is just fine, and the whole preposition issue is from people who think English should use Latin rules. Lots of other misguided “rules” have been foisted upon the English language by these Latinists. Check out grammargirl.com for a better explanation. Great pun, Cartoon Boy!
