Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Reading the comics online is better than from a newspaper as one can choose what to look at. And it helps with the rest of the day where the news is all about the negativity of a certain political party.
I don’t read the news except when tallying up the papers that didn’t sell at work at the end of the night. While I count, I glance over the headlines, read the front page bit of any that sound intriguing, and then read the comics of one of them —the comics that I don’t have in GoComics. The really important news will come through snippets on social media & word of mouth.
Me too!!! Sunday’s my day. I catch up on a week’s worth. Just start reading with Breakfast. I usually end up having a few cups of tea with it. Great way to end the week. : )
Until I was about 10 my parents took the New York Times – no comics. When we moved out to Long Island they started taking the regional paper out here – Newsday which had daily black and white comics, but no Sunday paper. My parents would still buy the Sunday NY Times – many is the time that my dad and I went, alone, in the wee hours of the morning to a all night diner 2 communities south of us for him to buy the Sunday Times. My grandparents when we were still in NYC would save the Daily News Sunday color comics for me (they lived a block away), when we moved out to LI they would save the color comics and what used to be called the rotogravure (color magazine) sections and bring them to me when they visited. Eventually Newsday added a Sunday paper with color comics.
I grew up hearing from my dad the stories of (1930s) Mayor LaGuardia reading the “funny pages” on the radio during a newspaper strike so the children would not have to miss them.
Married and out of the house for 40 years and I get the daily and Sunday paper delivered. Husband (who cannot physically deal with reading with the newspaper) makes comments about how thin the paper has become (Sunday business section is one, 4 page piece of paper) and tells me it has become a waste of money, but I still subscribe.
Fridays and Saturdays I generally don’t get to read the paper and will catch up on them on Sunday night, holding the comics from all 3 to read Monday night with the Monday paper.
Can anyone help me find the date of this strip from The Big Picture: Lennie is depressed by the news, with little visions of various bad things from the news swirling around his head, then in the last panel, he is reading the comics with little hearts and images of comics characters swirling around. It was years ago, but this comic made me think of it.

Been reading ‘em since I was a child! I sometimes read a comment or two, just to more appreciate the creator’s wit.

comics only for me on the weekends. If the world is going to hell in a handbasket, it can do it without my concern for a couple of days a week.

I usually read the comics while watching Good Morning America on TV.

I’m one of those people, the most intelligent section in the newspaper.

Also why I prefer getting them from gocomics and comics kingdom, plus the comments are like an international meeting place to discuss the comics.

And that would be me. We no longer have any reliable news source, journalism is dead and has been replaced by sensationalism and vitriol.

And, since he can’t change any of the bad news, he is, perhaps, the wisest of all.

That’s for me. Unless there was a good story on the front page I went straight for the contacts and ignored the rest.
