So typical. He got to retire but she never did. Still has to do laundry, cook, clean the house while he expects to do nothing and if she asks him to do one tiny measly thing he acts like he’s being abused.
The pant stripes change direction. One problem with being old is that you can say “I’ve been through rough days before, and I survived,” but one day you don’t survive.
Putting them in the washer isn’t so bad. It’s having her yaunch at him about putting them in the right way, in the right place and then make him do it instead of doing it right herself.
Takes about a year to adjust the division of labor in retirement. I’ve learned to do my own laundry, clean the kitchen, walk the dog, maintain the gutters, do some of the heavy lifting and watch “Yes to the Dress” with my wife.
The bride and I made my my retirement kind of a “fun game”, if you will! Once retired, (24 years ago)…………. Every evening, right after dinner, we take out the list of: “Chores needing doing the following day”. We then take a quarter and flip it. If it comes up.. “Heads”, that chore is MINE, for the next two days. If it’s tails, it’s obviously HERS, for the next two days! There are, of course, certain chores that’s she is a lot better at, than I am and versa. She actually prefers to iron, so when “ironing” is on the list, and the flip comes up Heads, for me…. she’ll do the ironing, but I’ll take dishwasher duty for 4 days in a row. This game of ours has worked very well, for the 26 years we’ve been married!

In The Dick Van Dyke Show in the 1960s, Buddy’s wife was Pickles. She was never on tv. He just phoned her.

Earl is such a defeatist. I tell myself “I got this!”, over and over again until I do.

All husbands should know how to do housework. Then they can correct their wife with authority.
