I know I do. Other than college I haven’t checked out a book from the library in 25 years. And in college t was all research material… I buy my books :)

Where is this going? “I should have just borrowed books from the library to save more trees”? Or “I should have just bought the books myself so more money would go to the authors”?

Two magazines, the internet, and an occasional Gutenberg book will carry me on out.

It’s something. We’re not going to say what, but it’s something!

That’s only the ones that I’ve kept, I have no idea how many I’ve read overall

I rarely buy books due to a well stocked library.

Libraries provide the opportunity for serendipity …

I’m sure I do, and I use the library. But I usually stay there and read. Fewer distractions.

But what’s the point of the strip? That that’s stupid because I’ve spent money on books I could have read for free?

The office I worked in had a box in the break room. Anyone could put in a book or take one out. Good way to try out authors you don’t know. I even learned I liked science fiction – which I had never read.

Ooooooor……..like with smart phones, you’re burying yourself away from everything.

I have a lot of books in my life too, but I do like to go out and live a bit of the wisdom on receive.

I own more books than I have checked out of a library. I hate to be on a time limit to read a book, I usually read it twice (if it is a good one), once on speed reading for the story and right after that a slow read to enjoy the writing. And then I will read it again and again and again over the years… You can’t do that with a library book.

The first thing people say, when they enter our house for the first time is, “Have you read all those books??”

I am going to get to one of those books on my night stand one of these nights. I promise.

I own many books that i haven’t read yet, but i do read most books i get from the library. The former i’ll get to later, the latter have a deadline.

one reason we now use audio and e-books. No dusting, stacking, storing, etc. And they can be bought or borrowed.

Our local library is so overrun with homeless (read: street people and bums) that the restrooms are filthy and the reading tables occupied by the unwashed. I gave up on going there and just download electronic books.

We’ve been working on decluttering the basement. Hundreds of books in boxes that we’ve read once and are unlikely to get around to again. (So many books, so little time!) Some can go to friends; the rest go to the Brooklyn Public Library’s annual book drive in the fall. The ones that the BPL can’t sell, it passes on to Better World Books. Hopefully someone somewhere will derive some enjoyment or other benefit from them.

Meanwhile, anything new that we want to read, we get from the library if at all possible. After reading it, we ask, “Do I really need my own personal copy of this?”

Acknowledged, this might not work for people who don’t have access to a vast municipal library system.

When did coffee cups get so damn big? Even the thermal ones look like they hold half a pot.

Seems that whenever there’s a choice that ends with “ … or something,” to quote Roseanne Roseannadanna, it’s always something. I don’t think that’s exactly what she meant, but nobody ever said it better. No ifs, ands, buts or somethings.
