Yeah, that’s a conundrum. I only post comments when I have something that seems worth saying… but I sure do appreciate when I get a lot of likes or comments.
My husband doesn’t do much housework, but the few times a year he decides to do something, he’ll say, “You didn’t even NOTICE that I (fill in the blank with something hardly noticeable)”.
Opal should set up a chart and gold stars system like we had when I was a kid. If Earl got lotsa gold stars, he could show it to everybody he know, including us. . .
Our youngest grandson, who was 4 at the time, came flying out the front door with his arms spread wide and said, “I’m outside now!”. It is definitely in the male DNA.
What usually happens is the husbands get nagged for what we don’t do, but never credited for what we do. It has been going on since the dawn of time. My wife never thanks me for anything, yet always complains if I don’t do something. It is who she is, and it does not bother me.
I had a friend who after every meal used to thank God and then thank his wife.
He told me that because his wife was such a terrible cook ( she was) that he always thanked God for getting through the meal without getting ill or making a nasty remark and he thanked her for her effort.
He always hoped that if he gave her encouragement, she’d improve her cooking skills. She never did!
He gradually took over the culinary responsibilities in the home, after taking a couple of cooking classes.

I’ve told my “Earl” I’ll start thanking him for loading or unloading the dishwasher when he thanks me for washing his underwear!

On the other hand, Opal should praise and encourage future efforts…

I think she was secretly thrilled.

My wife (RIP) of 54 years always walked the house bare footed. Cleaner floors, nowhere.

I would’ve just left the broom & dustpan leaning in the corner. “Show your work” is something I learned in grade school…
