Glad I looked it up. Didn’t have a clue: <<Tralfamadore is the name of several fictional planets in the novels of Kurt Vonnegut. Details of the corresponding indigenous alien race, the Tralfamadorians, …>>NOW WTH is a Tralfamadorian YEAR?
Not having read any of Vonnegut’s books, and learning via Google that Tralfamadorians see time as another dimension to move in and not linearly, I need someone to explain the joke to me, please.
I wonder if Google analytics shows a spike in queries after Frazz tosses out one of his arcane expressions. I bet there were thousands of searches for Tralfamadorian this morning!
Sci-fi author, comic, philosopher, prophet – let me take this opportunity to state that, while there are many very good (and several great) American writers, they all pale next to Kurt!
Frazz16 hrs · You guys made 19 years of Frazz such a celebration yesterday that I’m going to continue on that theme. One of the bonuses of that 19-year-so-far career was that it has introduced me to many new and very good friends. Two of those friends were Bill and Carol McGann, who owned a bicycle company called Torelli. They did a lot of business in Italy, and my wife and I accompanied them there one spring, along with two other friends, Bruce and Ardis. Every morning the guys would go for a nice long ride while our wives explored other aspects of Italy. One morning in Pistoia, we met up and rode with Paolo, one of Bill’s suppliers. Paolo was a terrific cyclist and a colorful, exuberant guy. He was Italy’s pro national champion in 1978 and still able to toy with us in 2004. When he caught me trying to figure out his age, he rode near me and loudly proclaimed, “I am nineteen!” When he saw that I wasn’t entirely convinced, he rode a little closer and said just a little quieter, “Nineteen each leg.” I laughed and then did a little math and apparently still looked unconvinced. He moved in until our shoulders touched and he lowered his voice a little more and said, “I have three legs.”I’m not sure if that was a metaphor or an analogy or just an awkward image, but it was pure Paolo.
