Yep – John’s fault.

Gossip, they do as much damage as the strongest of weapons!

gee, ladies, you think?

A little late to be worrying about what gossiping can do, don’t ya think?

Ladies (?) IT IS none of your business.

Being unaware of their own actions. That’s the worst.

I give it five minutes, tops, before they decide to tell Sue…

Ah. Now I see how the whole gossip started. These women are Jean’s friends. She lunches with them and were the first ones told and became a wildfire from there. Ladies? If you know Elly knows about the apartment, then she knows something you don’t, don’t you think?

It’s at this point that the rather painful gossip side-arc ends, thankfully. We’re meant to assume by Jean’s last comment that John set her straight about Fiona and that she in turn set the group straight. We never see any of them get their come-uppance for spreading the rumor in the first place, which I find highly disappointing!

You would think they would be smart enough to see there is nothing to it as John is making no effort to HIDE IT!!!

Have been single since 1994 and the topic of much gossip over the years. Learned to accept it as amusement. After all they couldn’t have a better topic.

My family loves to gossip. As I got older, I stopped telling them a lot of what was going on in my life. So whenever they find out anything about me it always changes from what’s the truth. Then they wonder why I tell them to mind their own business

I do believe their conversation belongs in the category known as “too late.”
