Results from the Gil’s Coaching Region Semifinals:

Marty Moon vs. TCFS Girls: The TCFS Girls have been a fan favorite, making a great run from one of the lowest seeds in the tournament. However, going up against perennial powerhouse Moon was just too much. Cliquish, annoying behavior can only take you so far. The Cinderella Story ends here.

    Marty Moon 75 – TCFS Girls 61

Chet Ballard vs. Parker Bowen: This was a battle between two highly seeded teams, but Parker could not keep up with Chet’s ability to steal and play dirty. All Parker’s slurs were ignored by Chet, resulting in a disappointing performance from the highly ranked Parker.

    Chet Ballard 82 – Parker Bowen 60

Results from the Fang Thorp Region Semifinals:

Scott Fowler vs. Knox Foley: Scott Fowler came into this game a two point favorite, but could not contain Foley. Whether it’s pressing a lawsuit, or pressing the basketball, Foley is amongst the best. Down 6 in the second half, Fowler searched desperately for inspiration from any random peacocks. But alas, none were to be found, and late in the game he could not buy a bucket. So now he’s drowning his sorrows at The Bucket.

    Knox Foley 69 – Scott Fowler 60

Ray Richey vs. Softball Moms: This was one exciting matchup, with the Regional favorite Ray Richey getting more than he bargained for. The fact that he once PUNCHED MOPMAN did not intimidate the Softball Moms. Showing up early for the game in their decked out minivan, the moms did not hold back. At halftime the game was tied at 39. The second half went back and force, Ray bullying his way to the basket, and each of the Karens on the Moms performing at their annoyingest best. With the game tied in the final minute, Ray let his emotions get the best of him again and took a swing at Karen B. Or was it Karen C.? Whatever, they all look alike. The resulting technical shots proved the difference.

    Softball Moms 78 – Ray Richey 77

P2: Tom shows his versatility by playing offence and defence at the same time, preparing to bunt – one-handed! – while also preparing to catch an outside pitch – bare-handed!

P1, Mike steals second then promptly decides to Knappe.

P2, Tom “Butt” Muench readies himself to be this season’s first recipient of the coveted Golden Loofa Award in the triumphant Milford showers.

P3, A Marty Moon grand slam is one bourbon, one scotch, one beer with a tequila chaser.

What is impressive is Tom Muench parked his grand salami with a fungo bat. Will GilPa show up in time from MCC, rush to the 3rd base coaches box in his traditional one stripe coach pants and glad hand his slugger?

P1: Did they adopt one of Mad magazine’s suggestions to make baseball more exciting? Quicksand around the bases. When you’re Left on base, you’re really left on base.

When I was umpiring high school ball you could only slide headfirst when returning to a base. Would remind the players during the dugout walkthrough to check bats ( and no jewelry allowed, either), and would remind the coaches. In Florida at the time, runner was declared out. I assume a lot of rules have changed. Rickey Henderson changed the world.

3 days of sports in a row. A recent record. But Milford takes so long batting the snow starts and the game is called in the fourth.

Sadly, Milford loses the game. The other team hasn’t batted, yet.

….and there’s actually a coach in more of a coma than Gil, as he allows all this activity to occur and never once visits the mound to settle down his pitcher, sort of like what Dusty Baker didn’t do during the Cubs meltdown in the Bartman game. Heck, maybe Dusty is the Thibideaux coach now

So the point of all this is how great The Mayor is, yes? His stolen base was the key, because, things.

And speaking of keys, a key part of a nutritious breakfast is reading Mopped Up Thorp: https://moppedupthorp.wordpress.com/
