The bread either goes in the order or it ends up in the trash. And it might end up in the trash anyway.

Many of us are old enough to sympathize with Gus, having gone from a mighty force to a candle in the wind waiting for our flame to die. Then we have to slap ourselves around and get back to it.

Sometimes advice is not valued, no matter how good.

(and sometimes, it is just bad, but good intentions count)

This is the opposite of Vivian Howard in “A Chef’s Life”. She stopped serving bread with the meal and her father objected. Still love driving to Kinston, NC to eat.

Have him fold napkins or something.

Of course you want bread, the dogs get that part of the meal.

Gus successfully and profitably owned and operated a money making restaurant for decades. So, to whom exactly, should they be listening? Themselves? Seems like that may not be working out.

Some parents don’t know when to quit. Raise your kids by being involved with their upbringing and setting a good example. Then let them go out there. If you did your job, they’ll do fine and they’ll ask if they need help.
