Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
OK, I see some very Locher-esque silhouettes. The only thing Staton and Curtis are getting wrong is that the characters still look human in silhouette. Donât they know that theyâre supposed to look like Godzilla and Megalon when theyâre back-lit?
Another complaint:
Youâd think that with each passing day, the chances of a continuity error would increase exponentially. Yet here we are on day three, and we havenât got even one continuity error.
Come on Staton and Curtis, weâre dying of starvation here!
Question; did Gould use silhouettes in his version of Dick Tracy? A lot? Some of you guys who have DT comics from the âReally Old Daysâ might look that up. Iâve read Tracy off and on since the 1960s, but I canât remember âfor sureâ if Gould did this or not. Not that it matters, Staton and Curtis seem to be using the technique to good effect.
Wow. Just wow. Pattonâs back after his retirement by way of a valid explanation. I could see someone retiring due to illness. I could also see someone getting treatment that was effective to the point of going back to work.
This is all making senseâŚgetting dizzyâŚdifficultyâŚfathoming good story tellingâŚfeeling faintâŚI have to go sit downâŚwait, I am sitting downâŚ
Pattonâs treatment was successful, and Samâs plastic surgery worked well, and Lizz found both her missing Z and a hair stylistist. Tracy found his hat. Life is good in the Major Crime Squad.
Yes, he certainly did on occasion. Here are some dates :
5-27-59 â Rhodent
12-24-54 â B.O.Plenty and Family
11-10-62 â Tracy and 52 Gang
11-10-62 â Tracy and HQ Group
In the latter case, in was Christmas Eve, âsnowingâ and 3 of the 4 panels were in silhouttes.
The contrast with the snow was quite effective
I recently â caught up â with DT after not following for sevral years. It was obvious that both the writing and art had gone downhillâŚand it was time for a change.
Locher was a great artist, but a poor scripter. Brozman incoperated a few â Gouldisms â that I liked ( ie. distorted anatomy/angles, like Dick looking at his wrist radio with the short arm ), but his art overall was subpar.
I am anxious regarding the new team. Never read any of Curtisâ stuff, but have loved Staton for years. I have faith in his(Staton) storytelling, but hope he will bring back that Gould style.
So nice to see such clean, professional-looking artwork on this strip again! A huge improvement over the muddy, sloppy mess weâve had to look at for far-too-long. And best of all, the plot is moving at a decent clip. The new team is off to a great start here and hopefully theyâll have a very long and successful run on Dick Tracy!
No colorization of daily strips!!! It just buries the beauty of the artwork! If you want color, buy a box of crayons and color in your monitor. Or do some mushrooms.
And the third day comes, and the blossoming continues.
Iâm almost crazy enough to stay up till 3 in the morning, waiting for the next installment.
Almost.
âŚHereâs another vote against colorization , Staton (whom Iâm Facebook freinds with and have had exchanges with there) said to me, basically , that he draws it with B&W in mind , though , remembering 1950s comic-book reprints , thinking of colorization too .
BTW , I think that Locherâs approach was good , too , and Iâm speaking out in (reasonable) support of him , too !
Anyone notice that all the Locher-era police uniforms have been replaced with realistic ones? Great! Locherâs uniforms looked like something a Central American dictator would wear to a Revolution Anniversary Parade.
Thatâs the way the computer labelling works, Rightwingmoron. Previously Locher got sole credit for all the works in the Gocomics archive, back to 2001. The names donât change on the comics themselves.

Is it me or is the new cartoonist a better drawer than Locher was?
lazygrazer almost 14 years ago
This is scary. Everything is moving so fast. Locher would never have done that to us.

The Master used silhouettes on occasion, as most cartoonists do. I agree, fellow MMM, this is being used well here. :)

Looks like Liz is happy to be a detective again.

Of course Liz would be happy to be a detective when you look at all the idiocy sheâs had to deal with in the past few years

If the reset means that the past mumble years slide into obscurity, fine.

Guys: Itâs LIZZ, not LIZ
Lizz is the happy, sexy policewoman. Liz was that sad, anorexic thing with the horn-shaped hair-do.

The color on todayâs strip is bordering on hideous, especially Samâs Leprechaun outfit. I much prefer the black and white for the dailies.
OneUrantian almost 14 years ago
Oh wow! I spotted a continuity error, but it is very minor. The brim of Samâs hat is different between the two panels.
This is a great, and restored, strip!
