I remember a time my father once gave my brother — who was dating my future sister-in-law at the time — two birthday gift and he had to choose one or the other: an Amazon Kindle (or something similar) and two hot-air balloon tickets. Can you guess which was chosen?
It’s weird. I’m terrified of flying, in spite of the number of times I’ve done it. (It’s like having babies; it never gets easier.) BUT, I’d love to go up in a hot air balloon.
I went to the wedding of a Navy buddy and wrapped up two hurricane lamps as a present. The only wrapping paper I had had hot air balloons on it. Turned out that his bride designed them professionally.
My wife (RIP) and I got certificates at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. We only brushed trees, but later a ‘pilot’ crashed into a tower, apparently forgetting life has both ups and downs.
My sisters lives near enough Albuquerque to go enjoy their big ballon celebration. We went once. Awesome to watch. You couldn’t get me into one of those things without using serious force.
I have the same memory about skydiving. As soon as I got the never to do it, it wouldn’t take my credit card. I took that as a “sign” and forgot about it.

So, we can make up our own memories if reality doesn’t match up well with our expectations?

What did you do with the money, Earl?

Maybe he saw “Mabel’s New Hero” (1913) and just misremembered that it happened to him and Opal instead.

Been in a hot-air balloon twice; awesome experience. On one, we took off from our field.

They should have named their dog Duke, and he could have been the “Duke of Earl”.

Maybe fond memory was the working overtime for two months. An unclear antecedent is a dangerous thing.

It is very cool. Colder than you’d expect, quiet until they ignite the burner, and you can hear people on the ground talking.

I had a boss that used to go fly in the Albuquerque Balloon Festival every year. That was his yearly vacation.

WE CAN REMEMBER IT FOR YOU
I remember the idea was to plant false memories of having done something you wanted to do.
