These panels have appeared often. Most times they are used for a new gag. This one being tropical.

Janis you look great! And the best part of getting old is you’re allowed to cut yourself a little slack. Count your blessings that your husband still sees the woman he married 40 years ago! At least I know this has been around over 40 years!

My hairy pits are the least of my problems now that I’m old. Until they’re my spouse’s problem, but then that’s easily fixed.

Well she looked good enough to land Arlo and looks good enough to keep him interested in the skin dance. What more does she want, Instagram fame?

I hate getting old, too. But I’m not all that enthusiastic about the alternative.

Getting old is no fun, but it beats the alternative.

Arlo, you have to come up with something to boost Janis’ self image.

Like: “Sweetheart, you are like a fine wine. You get better and better as the years go by.”

Cut yourself some slack, Janis. And love yourself a little more. You’ll end up being nicer to others, too. Especially to Arlo, that always does his best to lift your spirit, but you are deaf and blind at his efforts. C’mon, you can do it.

The haircut idea might be good to try. The thing on her head looks like a bad hat.

I am old, I have no problem with that. I earned everyone of the grey hairs I have, many of them the hard way. I look upon those grey hairs as merit badges.

Janis apparently no longer values the opinion of the man who married her. Then again she probably just thinks he has to say those things to validate why he married and stayed with her for all these years.

Poor Janis, doomed to an eternity of self-absorbed loathing and dissatisfaction with her body and life, thanks to Mr. Johnson. Yawn.

I remember when doing a few situps could change everything. Now I would need to do a few thousand.

I’ve often heard that women are their own worst critics (my wife and I are both in our 60’s and I can fully agree!). On another note, when I first read the comic I thought that Janis said “… everything might change with one good workout.” I thought, good grief, that was sure the optimism of youth – exercise is good, but overnight results are hardly realistic!

I didn’t look that good back then and look about the same now – just a touch of gray in my hair and having gotten fatter and thinner and fatter and thinner, and fatter – and am in thinner now – even more so over the past two months – have dropped 15 lbs since we have been staying home. (He lost enough that I had to take his jeans in 2 inches as they were falling off even with his belt.) We are not really sure how others are complaining of gaining weight when one has to be careful to eat as little as one can so the food in the house lasts longer as stores are greatly lacking in same and we are not going out for health reasons.
