Terry Pleger, you’re saying that the poor child looks like Donald Trump without the combover? Well … the kid has some good parents, so he should do okay.
Junior looks like a kid again, and it’s a bit of a jolt to see the Plentys are still in their childbearing years. I’ll go out on a limb and guess they’ve done a slight reboot and shaved a decade or two off everybody’s age. Of course, that implies the Dick and Tess’s youngest son and Junior’s daughter Honey have, at the very least, been bumped into the future. And where’s Sparkle?
At least we know that the baby has only one head. Gertie’s comment is intriguing - what part of the bull is she thinking about? Concerning the age of the characters, IMHO, I think that the new team has gone to the standard convention of letting the characters either not age at all, like in Calvin and Hobbes, or age very slowly, like in Dagwood and Blondie, but not to age in real time like in Gasoline Alley.
I think Junior’s age is going to be negotiable. That DT is asking him about the baby implies that Junior as been visiting, as any son-in-law would when a new baby joins the family. Also I seem to recall a comment by one of the writers a few weeks ago that Honey would be making an appearance.
I hope we have the horror…er..um…. the HONOR of meeting the leetle tyke, after all this anticipation.
Ah yes, the aging process in comics I’ve always felt the same way as Nightshade09, we only see a small glimpse in the time line. Where as a month of strips is actually one day for example. Then again the Mrs. thinks I’m nuts and says “Cartoons don’t have to age, just enjoy it.”
I don’t know maybe she’s right. But I not telling her that!
Rightwingmoron, check out Batman Beyond, it’s actually that premise. Batman too old to fight crime and gets an apprentice. A new Batman, taking “orders” from Bruce. No walker, but a cane, close enough.
Trying to figure out the Dick Tracy timeline could drive you crazy, especially when you consider Dick has encountered four generations of the Flattop Jones family…there’s Flattop’s father (Poptop), Flattop himself, Flattop’s kids (Flattop Jr. and Angeltop), and Angeltop’s son (Hi-Top).
Well, Junior will be one of those people with a youthful appearance. I’ve had one all my life, and in my mid 20’s looked more like Superboy in my costume than Superman. Now that I am almost 58 I am glad for that.
So far as we are concerned, everything that has happened in DICK TRACY happened in the last few years.
More on this when we do the 80th anniversary adventure in October.
Yes, Junior is youth in this strip, but I don’t think this delete the past history. Some strip ago Junior was driving a car, and for this I don’t believe he’s back to being a teenager again.

So? When do we see the leetle faller?
As far as the characters’ ages – look at that story that just ended. It ran 6 weeks with events that took place over just a few days.
So (insert complex math here) the 80 years(!) that Dick Tracy has been running has maybe covered 8 years in Tracy’s “life.”
So Gravel Gertie might be in her mid-late 40’s (she just looks 100 - and always has).

The reference to the bull might just mean that he is “hung” like one, which will make him very popular with females when he gets older.

The new team has obviously age regressed everyone. This is a “new” Dick Tracy so forget the past history of the last 40 or 50 years. Just as well.
