Quite right. Even the original “Police boxes” were not phone booths. There was a phone on the OUTSIDE that the public could use to call the police, but the interior of the box was a mini Police-station where the local beat officer could do his paperwork, make a cuppa, and even in some cases restrain a prisoner for a while. They date back to the time before there were many police cars and almost no radios, and they didn’t want officers wasting their time walking back and forth between their patrol area and the police station for simple tasks that could be performed on location. A car would periodically visit each box to collect memos, reports, and tickets, top up the supply of forms and tickets, etc. Also, despite how it seems on early Doctor Who, the boxes were never portable. They were small buildings built of wood, metal, brick, and/or concrete with real foundations.
Tom Baker and Peter Davidson are my top Doctors. Sunday morning 2 back to back episodes in the early 70’s. Then PBS had the full run of all the Doctors.
Once upon a time the super heroes were either aliens or rich guys with fancy equipment. Now they’re a bunch of mutants. Seems they need to go around cleaning up nuclear & chemical waste.
Tom Baker is the only Dr. Who I am familiar with (and I was familiar with him already, having seen him in other things). I am not a big fan of Dr. Who. I don’t dislike Dr. Who, I just never got into the series. The episodes I have seen were all with Tom Baker (and I have seen the 2nd half of one 2-parter twice without ever seeing the first half). I LOVED his scarf and my mom crocheted me one in the spirit of his and I knitted one for myself about the same length (14’ I think) but with different colors. My daughter is much more familiar with the Drs. Her favorite is David Tennant. I am much more familiar with Superman (maybe it’s a US/UK thing?). But at least I know enough to recognize the T.A.R.D.I.S., Dr. Who (and who is playing him), Superman (I would say Christopher Reeve), and why Superman was in the “phone booth.” So – all around a very successful cartoon. :o)

The second cartoon today to refer to Dr. Who. Is there an anniversary or something I missed? (Breaking Cat News is the other.)

I don’t see why he can’t change there, they are much roomier inside than out, certainly there is a dressing area.

About right for D4 I think, I expect D13 would probably show him somewhere he could leave his Clark clothes in the Tardis.
