This might have an interesting effect on Halloween costumes too. If Halloween happens at all.

This is the 2020 version of unforseen life changes, like those who set off from Europe and sailed west to perceived freedom; or those forced into slave ships and taken from their lands, tribes, and families to totally foreign languages, customs, and lifestyle; or pioneers exploring continents, oceans, and outer space, not knowing what they’d find, if they’d survive, or when they’d ever be home again. Not all made it. It was not without major stress but it challenged their will to live and awakened their ability to survive by using their mental and physical strengths.

Contactless delivery. He’s just gonna throw the presents down the chimney as he flies over.

Actually, Santa’s beard functions as a mask, all that reindeer exhaust.

That big beard makes a mask less effective.

My family moved to Australia when I was very young. I was worried about what Santa would do since it was summer at Christmas. My parents told me that Santa trades his sleigh for a dune buggy when he crosses the equator. Worked for me!

It seems that every year people wonder how to explain to kids that Santa Claus is on multiple street corners simultaneously. I’ve never understood why they don’t just explain that those are Santa’s helpers, that they dress like him to honor his spirit of giving (or whatever terms you want to put it into for the little ones).

In that spirit, in the hope of forestalling the raising of the Santa-and-the-virus issue this year, I offer the following: Tell the kids that Santa and the elves (and all magical beings, such as the Tooth Fairy) can neither catch nor spread the virus, so Christmas Eve deliveries are safe. Problem solved.
