I had a friend when I was a kid who lived down the street from me who had chickens. His dad would chop off a chicken’s head and it would creep me out when the headless bird would ‘dance’ and flap it’s wings. I understood that it was because the the nervous system but it still gave me the willies.
My flying dreams don’t involve flapping at all, just being streamlined. Unfortunately, they usually end with me rising to a great height (without volition) and then it’s MY turn to drive and I can’t pull out of the dive in time. I always wake up just as I hit.
Spouse HATES those dreams, because the bed bounces so much.
Earl is not a keen observer of nature or else he would have known that birds can fly because they start in a tree.. or off a roof… and, thank goodness.

Roscoe is hoping that Earl takes Opal’s sarcasm in a good way.

As what kind of bird were you dreaming, Earl? An eagle or an ostrich?

If you can’t flap your arms and fly in a comic, where CAN you?

I have those glorious dreams on occasion. It’s bitterly disappointing when I wake up.

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day (Night and day)
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly hoo

For one second I
Felt like a bird
Hangin’ up in the air
Feelin’ stops all
If I said in a word
The feeling to be without a care

Even if you’re certain, test your assumptions.
(I certainly have been certainly wrong.)

I used to have flying dreams, but didn’t have to flap my arms! Did Superman flap his arms? No!
How undignified, to need to flap your arms.

If god wanted me to fly, she’d give me tickets. Pan Am, if you please.
