To JP Steve from yesterday’s comments, who said, “I’m kinda surprised Walmart doesn’t stop you from competing with them in their own break room…”
My Walmart stopped selling produce a couple years ago. We got some watermelons this year and I expect we’ll get pumpkins, but that’s it. So I’m not competing with the store. Even when we did sell produce, we had a very small variety of produce. We sold a lot of bananas, but we didn’t have green beans and I don’t think we had tomatoes either. We don’t have scales at the checkout, so we only sold pre-packaged things like ready-made bagged salads and bagged fruit and potatoes and that’s about it. And we had a really lousy supplier so the quality of the produce we got was very poor. That’s one reason we stopped selling it. But yes, the first year I sold produce in the break room, I was afraid management would frown on the idea – that I might be taking away business from the store. But they never told me to stop, so I kept on doing it every year since. I lost count how many years I’ve been doing it. I don’t remember what year I started. But now that I’ve started, I can’t stop.
Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance
National Hot Cross Bun Day. I thought Hot Cross Buns were an Easter thing.
National Make Your Bed Day. As was brought up her just a couple days ago, making the bed isn’t easy when you have cats! So, I don’t actually make my bed. I just straighten the blankets a little, covering up the pillows just in case a cat happens to barf on my bed. Then I don’t need to change the sheets or pillows. I just yank off the dirty top blanket and put on a fresh one.
With so much that has happened this year that now includes drought and massive unprecedented fires here in the West, I am not counting on much of an aspen show this year.
Yesterday my neighborhood was full of search and rescue vehicles flying down the road with sirens screaming. Ending with a helicopter. When they left there were 5 search and rescue big red trucks, two of them pulling trailers with ATVs on them and an ambulance. Today I found out what happened (I don’t go rushing to see what is going on in that sort of situation) The neighbor immediately to the north of my biggest soybean field, (just past a VERY deep ravine), was bush hogging too close to the ravine and started a cave in, which took him and the tractor down into the ravine…a tree caught the tractor and slowed it enough that it did not land completely on Larry, but did crush his leg. The helicopter was taking him to Memphis to The Med…a very good emergency hospital. He is going to be ok, although I expect a long recovery and therapy.
Yup, that’s quite uplifting, Chesney. I think it would have been better to tell Woof that new leaves will appear in the Spring. Life is a constant cycle, after all. On another note, saw two rabbits, three dragonflies and a sparrow while out walking today. I also saw a wren outside in my garden.
As awful as this day has been, west coast wildfires, 9/11 memorial, pandemic and all of the arrogant, selfish people not wearing masks, reading today’s comic was a welcome chuckle. Thanks for that Graham.
