Happy Thanksgiving to all. It may be lonely and kind of bleak this year, but we are together in spirit. I raise my glass to each and every one of you my friends. I’m so thankful I have you all in my life!
Thanksgiving Day. Usually a day for family gatherings and a huge meal, but things are different this year. But it is still a day to be thankful for all we have. Let’s not dwell on what we can’t have.
National Day of Mourning. Weird this would fall on Thanksgiving, but I guess we may be mourning this year about not seeing family for the holiday
National Cake Day. Now THERE’s one I can do! Gimme some CAKE! I want CAKE!!
Turkey Free Thanksgiving. Not being a fan of turkey, every Thanksgiving of my life has been *and always will be) turkey free. I’m going to bake a one pound ham and I’ll cook up some green beans and mashed potatoes. My cats will get canned cat food and probably some bites of my ham.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. I’ve decided I’m not going to let the holiday get me down because of that stupid virus thing. We’re supposed to have a nice day with a high temperature in the upper 40’s (which is quite pleasant for this time of year) so I’m going to put up my outdoor lights and decorations and spend a nice day with my cats. If I have the energy, I may even put up my Christmas tree later tonight.
I’ve noticed lots of people put up their lights early this year. And we’ve been selling out of Christmas lights and decorations at Walmart faster and earlier this year than I’ve ever seen before. And artificial Christmas trees are going fast – the flocked trees are VERY popular this year. Someone even bought our $345 musical Christmas tree! I like that tree – it’s a pretty tree and the lights “dance” to the music. It comes with preloaded songs but I think you can program it to play your own music. The shoppers in my Christmas department sure keep me hopping as I try to keep the trees and lights filled (but quite a few trees and lights are sold out – I hope we get more of those). It will be nice to have Thanksgiving off so I can slow down and relax for a day.
From yesterday’s comments to marilynnbyerly who said, “Most box store chains are promoting Black Friday sales as a month-long event to keep people from jamming the aisles. Apparently, Walmart hasn’t gotten that memo.”
Actually Walmart did break up the Black Friday sales into 3 separate “events” over 3 weekends. Tomorrow is our third Black Friday event and the only one where we actually will be opening early (5:00 am rather than 7:00). In our first 2 “events” we had big screen TV’s and other electronics. This week, I see more of the clothing items and some Christmas trees and outdoor Christmas decorations. And we will be limiting the number of people in the store. But from all I saw the past 2 weeks, our first 2 “events” in store were not a huge draw. We also had a lot of online only items. I’m not sure how sales went on those.
Yup, that’s a telephone pole all right. Jack and Chesney had better scram before the power company spots them. Timber!!!! On another note, saw a flock of sparrows (at least twenty), a wren, and a squirrel while out walking today. Spending Thanksgiving at home this year. Hopefully, I’ll be able to go to my Aunt and Uncle’s house next Thanksgiving.
I had a good Thanksgiving…cooking and eating with my daughter for company (and 2 dogs), my shared cat came for breakfast. But one of the highlights of the day was taking food and a pie to my hay man. He had a yard full of cats/kittens…maybe 8 weeks old, 2 black ones and one yellow with long unkempt hair. They were adorable and at that playful age…running, falling over, getting under foot. We stayed in the yard…all things being 2020. We would have come home with the yellow one and one of the black ones, but they had already been promised.

This made me laugh out loud. Silly cats.
I know it’s supposed to be the thought that counts, but first you have to think.
