Well I hope Mr. H’s eyes will be ok, good luck with your surgery on Tuesday, we’ll all be here, and Bea, I hope your top priority will be to make sure your husband has a smooth recovery. On a separate note, in case we don’t see you by then; Merry Christmas!
Your health comes first * How can we enjoy your comic strip if you are not healthy to write it? Take you time and best wishes to successful operations . We will be here when you ready to return with all new strips and ideas ready to go.
Have a peaceful recovery. (Cataracts trend in my family, so surgery is a question of “when” not “if.” I sympathize with anyone who has this done, and I am so grateful that the procedure gets less complex each decade.) We’ll see each other next year!
I just had this done myself. Just finishing up with the eye drops. It will be the one thing that will make 2020 memorable in a good way. The results were amazing!! The best birthday present I ever had and I still hade to pay for it. Good Luck. Cheers!
I’ve had both eyes done (two years apart). I tell my friends, when cataracts are discovered, that this surgery is the one to get without worry. I’m quite old, so viewing “white” after the lens replacement knocked my socks off. Have a great surgery and rest.
Take care Mr. H. and most of all do what the doctors say to do. Don’t be in a hurry, we will be here regardless of the time. And don’t worry BeaR, take care of hubby and don’t worry about us, we will be fine enjoying your fabulous old strips!
Best thing I did in years. I didn’t realize how bad my eyes were until AFTER the surgery. It restored my teen aged eyes after 80 years. Congratulations. I hope, like other otakus, to see lots more of Sedine.
While there is still a risk, cataract surgery has gotten routine. When I had mine a couple of years ago the only restrictions I had was no lifting more than a gallon of milk, no swimming or hot tubs (for 2 weeks) and I couldn’t drive until I had the followup appointment. Still had to wear an eye patch at night until the second followup.
Let me join everyone else in thanking you for all the enjoyment the strip brings me, and wishing you a smooth and easy recovery. I had both of my eyes done a few years back, and had no discomfort (let alone pain.) The improvement in my vision was gob-smacking (the world went from incandescent to sunlight.) Definitely a procedure to do if it is needed (and if you can afford it.)I look forward to re-runs of old favorites, and the eventual return of new material.
I had my eyes done about 10 years ago, and it was nothing then, so should be a breeze.
One suggestion… Watch a black and white movie before the surgery, then, after the surgery and recovery, watch the same movie again. I guarantee you will absolutely floored by the difference. It’s marvelous, and shows you what you have been missing because of the cataracts.
Ok, this seems like a good time to plug an amazing charity: ORBIS, the flying eye hospital. They operate a MD10 plane which is kitted out as a teaching hospital for eye surgery. Almost everything is run by volunteers, their office is a tiny room in a cheap building. The plane flies to various countries, and people flock to them for treatment. ORBIS not only operates, but teaches local doctors and nurses etc how to perform the ops and treatments, then supports them with clinics and equipment. 90% plus of world blindness is avoidable and they try to help. We have always supported them, but after Himself needed urgent cataract surgery (he naturally had to have unusual cataracts that meant he would have been blind within six months) and his discovery of a whole new world once his eyes had been done, we have supported them even more in gratitude that our home country has plenty of eye facilities and surgeons.
Best wishes for a fully successful operation and speedy recovery. My mother and father each had it done years ago no problems and vision improvement was such that they wished they had done it years prior. You’ll be in our prayers.

Take your time, cataracts are one hell of a nuisance. We’ll still be here when you get back. Well, I will, at least.

My dad had that surgery and it was the best thing to ever happen to him. I’m perfectly ok with repeats if it means your recovery. Take your time, Bea!

Hope they go like mine went. outside of not being allowed to drive for two days after each surgery, nothing else slowed down, let alone needed a rest.
