My go to Christmas movie is The Lion In Winter. Mother is released from prison to spend Christmas with her estranged husband, his mistress, and her three sons. They spend the holiday bickering about who will take over the family business (the crown). Best enjoyed with a chalice of mulled wine.
I read a synopsis of one of those movies years ago. And then another and did not go beyond the second one when I realized that, like Imaginarium said, they were all the same movie. They have moved beyond heterosexual white characters, but the plots are still the same old same old. They are all cheerfully avoided.
I don’t think this is a Hallmark movie, but it does take place around Christmas and is one I would watch (again). It is the 1999 movie “One Special Night” starring Julie Andrews (age 64) and James Garner (age 71). It was their 3rd movie together. It was great.

Our Christmas Eve tradition is watching the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol with a mug of hot cocoa and some Christmas cookies.
