Suffering is over-rated.

not easy being a writer, is it?

Did it happen on a dark and stormy night? Then probably you should forgive them for not seeing your tail in the dark.

Yeah, I remember one time when the toilet seat smacked my tail…………… oh wait, that wasn’t my tail.

Not to mention all those times when Charlie Brown was late with his supper.

Now, that Lucy’s stepped on your tale, you suffer again!

Don’t be so down Snoopy, everyone is a critic nowadays (or 1974 when this first came out).

There was a strip in which Charlie Brown said that children are the victims of sin and dishonor, and are the ones who suffer. When Snoopy showed his own pain, CB said, “Yes, and dogs, too. Dogs also suffer.” To which Snoopy replied, “Thank you.”

Like you know what it is to suffer, Lucy?

She should read his Iife story. He has experienced real life; prejudice, separation from family, love, loss, learning, internal and external conflict, war, travel, friendship, athletic competition, patriotism, loyalty, and endless more.

I silently laugh when I hear people complain about “First World Problems.”

Reminds me of Wodehouse’s wonderful Jeeves and Wooster. At one point, when Wooster is separated from Jeeves (and has to select his own clothing, etc) he comments that now he understands what true suffering is!

Then there was a the time the round headed kid was 10 minutes late with my dinner.

You have to suffer to know how splendid not suffering is.

Oh that’s nothing…..I grew up before the internet, no computer games, no cell phones and at a time when tv only had three channels.

Suffering is in the eye of the beholder.

My Mom liked the movie The Song of Bernadette. Near the end, an old nun tells Bernadette that she, unlike the old nun, doesn’t know suffering. The old nun says the time she spends in prayer causes her painful knees, hoarse voice, and a dry, sore throat. . Bernadette then reveals she is seriously ill. The doctor comes and diagnoses tuberculosis of bones, adding it must have caused her unbearable pain.

A classic. I’ve always remembered this strip and its wonderful punch line. I wonder if puppies and kitties have memories of such things. Suffering is surely in the mind—or in the tail—of the sufferer.

Lucy is a good one to talk. She only makes other people suffer.
