Most of the patrons are examining the new painting, except Maude. Maude is shopping for a new husband, and she had heard that the museum is the best place to pick up a respectable gentleman of means

Oddly enough, with all those paintings and the fancy clothes, the most colorful thing is the carpet-covered couch.

Henry quietly read his book as the tour group moved on. With any luck his wife wouldn’t realize for at least an hour that he’d ditched her and the group. Actually, he thought, with any real luck she’d move to Milwaukee and let him live out his life in peace. Henry wasn’t that lucky.

Johann loved to visit the art museum where he could sit and read in peace and comfort. Unfortunately, he had forgotten that this was Friday and every Friday the Viking Tours ship would show up and dump their passengers upon the town. “Bastardos!”

    Sensation at the art gallery

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Carl_Johann_Spielter_-_Sensation_at_the_art_gallery.jpg

(best viewed with Google Chrome, which can automatically translate most pages as necessary) has info and links that point to info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

    https://www.the-athenaeum.org/people/detail.php?ID=7604

    http://www.askart.com/artist/Carl_Johann_Spielter/11131624/Carl_Johann_Spielter.aspx

both have info, or links that point to more info, about this artist (again, if truncated, the last can be read in full for free on Fridays), perhaps in addition to what’s pointed to by the title URL, which indirectly points to his German Wikipedia page:

    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Johann_Spielter

and links it points to (again, Chrome can automatically translate as necessary). So far, 2 works by him have been used here.

    https://www.gocomics.com/that-is-priceless/2019/09/20?comments=visible

has the prior (my comment there pointed to the same artist info URLs, the first of which may be unresponsive).

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (⌘- or Ctrl-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #2661 (March 11, 2021) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment.
