Almost every home in my neighborhood – including my own, has a rooftop terrace where the wash is hung out to dry. Many of them, like my own, are covered so wash can be hung to dry anytime. Most people here still prefer the fresh smell of air-dryed clothes to machine dryers.

Since it’s winter much of the year here, I dry mine in a sunny window. The sunlight’s powerful when it’s in the south.
