More proof that this strip is nowhere-near based on reality (heh heh). A big “F” would be given in the real world, along with a “Does not pay attention” teacher’s note.
So she demonstrated a complete disregard for the assignment yet her teacher’s impressed with how she came up with an original answer. How backhanded! ;/
“The same googled information”. Oh, my. That reminds me of a friend of mine, a teacher, who got fed up with the copy/paste she got in history. So one day she told her students: “You all have done a remarkable job.”
Cue smirks.
“So now we are going to discuss all that information by having a little test that will count for half the mark.” They all failed because none of them had bothered to even read what they pasted.
From that day onward she says that she still gets the same google/Wiki info but at least her students do read it as well because she always have a test on the subject.
We were supposed to give a speech in class concerning a certain area. I stretched a point and went outside the area of concern. I was dinged on that fact but the teacher said it was good because the other speeches were very repetitive and the teacher was glad to hear something different.
Back when I was in college everyone had to take the “English Writing Proficiency Exam.” We were given a list of four different statements and had to write a paper explaining how we agreed or disagreed with the statement.
Well, I didn’t have any interest toward any of the choices, and so failed the first time. The second time again I had no interest in the choices, and so I wrote about “The Problems with the English Writing Proficiency Exam.”
Back in 5th grade we were assigned a state and write a report; as part of the project we had to write a request to the state’s department of tourism and request information. I got Maine, as it happened; the brouchures they sent were all along the lines of, “Hike ME” and “Fish ME”, etc. This was in the early 70s.
@Lenavid. You have an interesting fantasy going on. Trump took an economy that had been in a slow steady spiral up and had it flatlining before Covid, Economists were warning of the upcoming “Trump Recession” back in 2019 before Covid. Trump was laughed at to his face when tried to pull a whopper at his U.N. speech when he told them how great he was doing.
I got an “F” on an American history paper but, my mom got an “A” (Grammar school.); the teacher saw past the typewritten report. Fast forward to college where I bought a term paper & got an “A”.
Making a persuasive argument is tricky, whether in writing or speaking. While she may not have been convinced that Portland should be the capital of Maine, her teacher seems to have seen some validity in Danae’s reasoning. It takes creative thinkers to advance new ideas.
Nobody said it was perfect and since it was totally off-topic it deserved a failing grade. Brilliance because of laziness doesn’t make something right.
Danae’s in pretty good company here: “The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.” —Arthur C. Clarke CBE (1917-2008), science-fiction writer, Clarke’s 2nd Law
It seems the commenters are losing track of the fact that cartoon pedagogy has about as much relation to real-world pedagogy as cartoon physics has to real-world physics.
This reminds me of my favorite Odd Bodkins strip: A line of children of various shapes, sizes, and appearances walks into a little schoolhouse. The schoolhouse chomps and munches. The line of children emerges, all identical to each other.

However, one can only be original once. If she repeats that tactic again, I think she might get a different note and grade.
