National Name Your Own Holiday Day. I think I’d call this BHA Day (Becky’s Horrible Allergy Day). My nose is so tickly and I just can’t stop blowing my nose. I feel like that’s all I’ve done for the past hour or so. But it’s only 1:30 in the morning. By the time morning actually comes, maybe (hopefully) my allergy symptoms will ease off.
I had the most thrilling bird sighting yesterday right by my house – a pair of ravens locked claws and spiraled downwards almost to the ground as if they were out of control. I have seen them do a quick once over tumble in the past but this pair must have circled half a dozen times!
All my cats were moved in from outside. 3 of them were born to strays who hung around. Screamin’ & Cryin’ (my avatar) just showed up at about 2 years old (the Vet thinks estimated that) We think he was previously owned & dumped. We’re a block away from Animal Control & think he was just left outside & escaped. He wanted in so badly as he had no outsider skills. The others all learned the basics from their Moms.
Sometimes things happen that make you scratch your head. A grandson grew up with Alpha and his tribe. He’d spend hours communing with Alpha and a tribe member named ‘Chunks.’
Let’s give the back story -
Chunks was a big, traumatized cat. He and his brothers had a rough start to their lives when they were kittens. They and their mother were strays. We’d see them in the area, mother leading a line of kittens down the dirt road and we were forever trying to get them to come into the house. The mother would shelter them all under the house but wanted nothing to do with humans.
(Alpha, of course, was forever out there doing his best to protect them. We still recall one night when a huge (30lbs +?) raccoon was trying to get under the house in order to have himself a tasty kitten snack. The raccoon was jammed halfway under the edge of the house and Alpha was having a fine time whaling away at that preoccupied raccoon’s backside with his scalpel sharp claws. Needless to say, Alpha succeeded in persuading the raccoon to seek an easier meal.)
Mama cat’s refusal to come in from the cold ended in a disaster. One night we heard a cat scream and a racket just down the road. Coy dogs had chanced across the family and gone after them.
We checked in the morning but nothing was to be seen or found. We assumed that they’d all been killed and eaten. No sign of mother cat and her kittens.
Two days later we see a small and scared kitten looking out from under the house at us. We put out food and water and keep our distance so as not to scare him/her. Over the next few days more kittens show up under the house. Alpha is in overdrive herding and protecting them.
A few more days go by, five kittens survived. There were more, but…
More follows tomorrow, We don’t want to incur the wrath of GC.
As I returned home from Aqua therapy and grocery shopping at noon today, a huge Black Vulture went soaring across my yard, and down to the barn, landing on it, and settling it’s wings. I had a horrible thought…where was Tinker Belle (the ancient donkey). I drove right on down to the gate, and she was munching hay under the hay pavilion. Whew.
Aw, that poor kitty. :( I hope someone nice does find them and give them a good home. On another note, saw four juncos while out walking today. I also saw a rabbit on the way to work.

This one makes me cry. A perfect world would be when all the kitties (and puppies) have happy homes.

Dang! It’s 1:45 in the morning and no updated strip. No updates on our beloved bbear either. I’m worried about bbear.
