When I was a kidlet we always used knives to sharpen pencils…can remember half the class of ten year olds all squashed together busily sharpening our pencils into the one bin. Looking back, I am surprised no-one got cut by accident, but I suppose if you are taught how to use a knife correctly from an early age you tend to be safe with them. My papa taught me how to handle a knife when I was five.
You’d be surprised what you can buy branded “Hello Kitty”. They sell a Hello Kitty AK-47, and also a… a… uh… “electric massager” your wife might enjoy…. nuff said.
I had to have a huge hematoma drained after a horse accident. They gave me an antibiotic shot to prevent infection and when I got home I discovered it was covered by a “Wonder Woman” band aid!
It does not matter which doctor’s office I’ve been to, all they have are kid’s band-aids. The medical people must believe what tremaine53 said, They magically make any owie hurt less!
I remember my dad teaching me to sharpen pencil with a knife, fortunate I did not cut myself and very cautious, was really lousy did not help with the pencil, my dad tried not to bother with pencil sharpener. He like old fashion ways.
But it is a MACHO kitty! Way easier to just get up, go to the bathroom, get a big bowl of ice-cream with chocolate syrup, and use the pencil sharpener, compared to wherever your pants and knife happen to be nowadays.

Nothing says how macho you are like a Hello Kitty band-aid. Right Earl.

Earl was too lazy to get up to go to the pencil sharpener.

I’ve always found that I could get a better point on a wooden pencil sharpening it by hand, but I also tended to wear down the pencil faster that way.

Methinks Opal likes Hello Kitty because she’s a cat person; Earl would be prefer a Snoopy bandage because he’s a dog person.

“…that too.”
(I favored mechanical pencils when first I saw them. Always sharp and can be used as a weapon if absolutely necessary — I ever did, but I could’ve.)

We used to have actual “Home economics” and “Shop” classes. Now there is a shortage of skilled trades. Wonder how that happened?

My grandpa, a farmer & carpenter, always sharpened his pencils with his pocket knife.
He also trimmed his grandkids’ fingernails with it; scared the crap out of my mom.
